His paper provides a review of the development of the periodic table including the prediction of elements by Mendeleev. He proceeds to describe some parallel developments that took place in the 1960s with the classification of elementary particles and even the prediction of new ones by Gell-Mann and Zweig. The major purpose of the paper is to present the ...

This author recently organized an exquisite on-line exhibition on this subject, as well as a hard copy version, which I personally visited while on a trip to Barcelona to speak at a celebration for the 100th anniversary of the death of Mendeleev. Not only does Alvarez rehearse some important stages in the development in ideas on elements and the periodic system, but he ...

Meanwhile the annual conference of our society has been running for an even longer period of 12 years, up to and including the latest successful encounter that was organized by Klaus Ruthenberg in Coburg, Germany. For readers who may not be familiar with these conferences, we alternate between locations in Europe and the rest of the world. We are very fortunate that the next ISPC conference ...

First of all the husband and wife team of George and Laurie Kauffman gives a review of the autobiography of noted inorganic chemist, Fred Basolo. I might just pause to mention that George is among the most prolific scientific authors working today or at any time for that matter.1 The book by Basolo is the first in a series of profiles in Inorganic Chemistry modeled on the already established series of organic ...

Unfortunately none of the protagonists have seen fit to reply to the points I raised. The call for papers was then widened to invite anyone with an interest in this issue ...
