Through qualitative research, using interviews from five Indigenous entrepreneurs in Mexico, and the comparative case studies, this research identifies the motivators and characteristics of Indigenous entrepreneurs, as well as community embeddedness as an element of core business, without which company creation could not happen. The results show that embeddedness, identity, comunalidad (communal way of life), and worldview contribute positively to entrepreneurial project achievements, which also impact the community itself. Recommendations for different economic and social agents, concerning supporting the sustainability of Indigenous communities, and the protection of their culture and historical legacies, are derived from this study.

On the contrary, this paper is focused on other relevant factors such as strategy and industry structure. In this sense, we carry on an empirical analysis on new firms created in 1991 in order to analyze its strategic behavior along 1992-1994 period. We used the “Encuesta Sobre Estrategias Empresariales” database. Factor analysis permited us to establish the strategic factors that were employeed to identify, through cluster analysis techniques, five archetypes of new venture estrategies: innovators, product adapters, specialists, niche providers, and service defenders. Regresion analysis shows an important influence of structural factors in new venture’s performance, however the incidence of strategy is only partial.

The preliminary results obtained from a review of case studies reveal that ICT use is not only a means for improving the teaching–learning process but also an emerging prerequisite, demanded ...

In order to carry out this research, a case study methodology based on social network analysis has been adopted, given the nature of the variables analyzed. The results indicate that the fact of having managed to start up the company has been an important source of self-confidence and inspiration, as well as increasing and intensifying the social networks of PwID involved in the entrepreneurial project.

This study focuses on Spanish wineries and their environmental practices and covers a total of 4598 wineries with a sample of 142 valid responses during the month of November 2015. The results can be summarized as follows. Firstly, there is positive environmental proactivity in terms of obtaining both cost-based and differentiation-based competitive advantages. Likewise, this proactivity has a positive impact on the manager's perception of performance. Secondly, obtaining differentiation-based competitive advantages has a positive impact on the manager's perception of performance although a negative impact on performance itself. There is, however, no significant evidence of the impact of cost-based competitive advantages on financial performance nor on the perception of performance itself, nor the impact of environmental proactivity on financial performance.

However, some recent small and mediumsized ventures simply fail to survive, or survive marginally with limited expansion. For this reason, it is important that firms survive in competitive conditions. Within this context, this research focuses on the study of this issue proposing a model. The model ...
