José Carlos Rueda Laffond gained his Ph.D. in Contemporary History from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and today he is Senior Lecturer at the same University.
He teaches courses about Contemporary History as part of Grade, Master an Ph. D. programs. He was awarded several times for teaching excellence, and holds three stages of research recognized by CNEAI (Ministry of Education of Spain).
José Carlos Rueda Laffond has been visiting professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Faculty of Humanities), Universita degli Studi di Firenze (Facoltà di Scienze Politiche), Université catholique de Louvain (Faculté de Philosophie, Arts et Lettres), Université libre de Bruxelles (Faculté de Philosophie et Lettres), Universiteit Gent (Faculteit Letteren in Wiljsbegeerte), Universidade Catolica Portuguesa (Faculdade de Ciências Humanas, Lisbon), Universitá degli Studi La Sapienza di Roma (Facoltá di Scienze della Comunicazione), Universitá Roma Tre, University of Limerick or Uniwersytet Im. His interests are focused on the relationship between communication and history, and, specifically, in:
--- Communism and Memory.
--- Analysis of narrative strategies and practices in historical discourse on TV and film.
--- History of communication and cultural history.
--- History of television and political culture.
--- Connections between national identities, media and memory.
He is now working on a research project on Symbolic Representations in Spain (iconography and socio-political representations, identities, mediations, memory spaces, hybridization and narratives...), funded by the MICINN (Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Government of Spain).
His articles are in the Hispanic Review, Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, Hispanic Research Journal, International Journal of Iberian Studies, Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies, Historia Crítica, Catalan Journal of Communication & Cultural Studies, Alpha, Hispania, Comunicación y Sociedad (Universidad de Navarra), Bulletin d´Histoire Contemporaine de l´Espagne, Comunicación y Sociedad (Universidad de Guadalajara, México), Arbor, Historia Social, Historia Contemporánea, Ànalisi: Quaderns de Comunicació i Cultura, and others refereed journals.
José Carlos Rueda is author of several monographs, including "La mirada televisiva. Ficción y representación histórica en España" (Madrid, Fragua, 2009), "Imágenes y palabras. Medios de comunicación y públicos contemporáneos" (Madrid, Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas, 2005), and "La televisión en España, 1956–2006: política, consumo y cultura televisiva" (Madrid, Fragua, 2006).He is author of "Televising the Sixties: Memories and Historical Constructions in Spain", published in On Media Memory: Collective Memory in a New Media Age (London, Palgrave Macmillan, 2011), edited by Motti Neiger, Oren Meyers and Ezal Zandberg.
José Carlos Rueda also serves on the editorial board of various journals, including Revista de Estudios Sociales, indexed in Social Sciences Citation Index and Arts & Humanities Citation Index (ISI), and Scopus.
He collaborates with various academic and research institutions, like Academic Reputation Survey (Thomson Reuters Global Institutional Profiles Project), IBIS (Academic Book Information Service), ANEP (Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Government of Spain), ACAP (Regional Government of Madrid), Palgrave Macmillan International Researcher Panel, and Fundación General del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas.
José Carlos Rueda has presented his works in different national and international conferences, and has organized international congress, like "Identidades Nacionales y su Representación Televisiva" (Ministry of Science and Innovation, Complutense University and Hebrew University of Jerusalem), and "Memorias, Medios y Espacio Público en la Europa Mediterránea" (Ministry of Science and Innovation and Complutense University)
