University of Connecticut School of Law's Journal (original) (raw)

Event Info

Host: Concerned students of Uconn
Type: Causes - Rally
Network: Global

Time and Place

Date: Wednesday, March 4, 2009
Time: 4:00am - 6:00pm
Location: Student Union Ballroom 330
City/Town: Storrs, CT

Over Christmas break, Uconn police intercepted an email threatening the safety of Uconn student Andrew G. They felt the threat was credible enough to immediately alert the local police. Though both have let Andrew know his safety is in danger while he is on the UConn campus, neither will grant him permission to view this threat. Nor have any steps been implemented to keep Andy from being harmed by this people. If the police would let him view the email, he may be able to tell them who is sending it.

Next time, you may be the one who is repeatedly threatened with being attacked on campus while the police and university look the other way, thinking that telling you "hey you're in significant danger of getting beaten into a coma, watch your back" is adaquate measure to keep you safe.

Show up on March 4 to show the university, and Andy, that you won't settle for ignoring the safety of UConn students. Bring snacks and the like to share. Once the crowd gathers, we'll order pizza. Carrying signs is a definate plus. Have afternoon class? Let your professors know, you are taking time off from class because you care about the safey of every student on campus, even if the university doesn't.

JD/MBA - Any current students or alumni from UConn JD/MBA program? What did you think of it?

Living - Dorms available? If so, what are the conditions? Would you suggest living off campus?

Jobs - What are my chances of working in Manhattan? How many Manhattan firms interview on campus?

Jobs - What are my chances of getting a clerkship? Are there internships with judges available? What are your experiences with this?

In-State - Any of you out-of-state? Were you able to get in-state status? What are the conditions?

Jobs - What percentage of student (use your perception, unless you have a source with actual figures) go into business and corporate law, rather than tax or litigation?

Thanks all!

Mind ranting about your school? Also, what's a typical schedule like? Would you advise against a 45 minute commute? Any comments that you feel might help to sway me one way or another are welcome!

Taking advantage of my last semester as a student, I went to the University of Connecticut football game earlier today. Sitting in the student section with a mass of mostly undergraduates from Storrs was somewhat interesting. I got to see a couple of folks busted by the State Police for minor in possession charges.

The UConn Band, when the team is approaching the opponent's goal line, bangs the drums for a few measures, after which they chant, in fast tempo and with full intention of producing a double entendre, "Stick it in! Stick it in! Stick it in!" There is something inherently wrong with a 33-year-old 4L chanting that along with 18-22 year old kids. But I did it anyway.

The opponent was Duke, which is hated by Vanderbilt students because of their false claim to being the premier Southern university, hated by Georgia Tech students because of their being the most obnoxious of the North Carolina schools, and hated by Connecticut alumni because, well, because they just suck. So I have a threefold hatred of Duke.

Final score: Connecticut 22, Duke 20. Woof!

I've created college101. A place to ask questions about colleges & universities all over the USA. ["If I want to study _____, what university has the best program?"] Feel free to share any & all experiences [good & bad] about your place of knowledge! Heck, even talk about sport teams if that tickles your fancy.

x-posted lots. Sorry if you get this more then twice :)

Sincerely,

Hi, I've noticed that this group isn't that active.Anyhow .. .

I'm an anxious 1L E student here. Just wondering if anyone else had trouble with "basics", like shepardizing (I still can't believe thats a word lol) a case. I messed up my first LP assignment, and am wondering if this is common.

Thanks, any other advice about 1L would be great.

I realized today that I forgot to post this last week...In my Evidence Flashcards the following words were found:

I'm sure that Jen was right, and this was like the Disney thing - someone trying to slip things in, thinking people wouldn't notice! I can't tell if I think it's sick or funny!

Good luck, gang. My first of three is tonight.

Tejas, Steve, how does it feel to be almost done?
