In its pages, a crucial part of the Global Cold War is covered, as was the military thought in Latin America, especially in Chile and Venezuela. Through its chapters, the facts, their contexts and processes are analyzed, supported by original documents from Chilean, Venezuelan, and U.S. archives, as well as empirical data, which nourish their interpretations and provide other visions of contemporary history.
In the work, military history and comparative history are harmoniously integrated and dialogued, when analyzing the evolution of the concept of Unconventional Warfare in Chile and Venezuela within that global conflict. Likewise, the book provides a Latin American perspective of the international conflagration, which adds documents and interpretations on the complexity of the military world and its dynamic interaction with the war scenarios of its time.

In sum, perspectives are added to the agency/structure discussion with reference to the State and the case of the Alliance for Progress, from historiographical theory, Cold War historians, and international relations.
