Moreover, this process encourages students to critically examine and discuss specific past and present-day local conflicts. From a qualitative approach, I analyze several learning objectives from the Chilean national curriculum frameworks that best suit the aforementioned topics developed and problematized in Morales' plays. As complementary, I discuss the previous results with eight randomly chosen secondary teachers and their students about using Morales' plays to teach particular topics in Chilean history. The results reveal that incorporating two of Morales' plays as a reading

This play is used as a case study to analyze the playwright’s ideas about using media as a manipulation tool to control and distract the audience in modern capitalist societies. The play’s analysis addresses interviews and the commodification/objectification of women as discursive devices of distraction producing false information in the media industry. This study establishes that Morales’s play reveals the cultural space of distraction used by the media, which contributes to creating a parallel narrative of possible futures, both defying national literary canons and anticipating several issues related to media intervention by corporate media and politicians in the 1960s.

This article critically analyzes and discusses the issue of military regimes performing authoritarian power and political repression against their citizens, which, in turn, is connected with the Chilean context of the second half of the twentieth century and the first decades of the twenty-first century. Using a discourse analysis approach, this study examines José Ricardo Morales’ play Los culpables to critique the emergence of an authoritarian political-military system disseminating political montage against innocent citizens throughout the twentieth century. The analysis of the play reveals an avant la lettre discourse on authoritarianism, which is relevant to shed light on a new interpretation of the current use of propaganda and violence as a form of political action by the Chilean government.

This study aims to understand the Mapuche intercultural dialogue. Based on a corpus of semi-structured interviews with Mapuche communicators, we interpret and analyze their discourses in relation to the dissemination and/or analysis of the indigenous digital informative media. The results are built upon the valorization and recognition of the mediations that the Mapuche agents develop around their own e-communication praxis. This interpretation derives from applying theoretical–conceptual categories which have enabled us to address technological, technopolitical, (inter)cultural, and communicative dimensions regarding the Mapuche e-communication work.

Through an interdisciplinary research grounded in the past and current Chilean contexts, this research examines Morales’ plays as critical texts that theorise and problematise the conflictive nature of media control and physical repression of social movements in authoritarian regimes, by dramatising their use of rhetorical and discursive strategies of persuasion. The analysis of the plays is complemented by a pilot research that examines and discusses the Learning Objectives (Objetivos de Aprendizaje) suggested by the Ministry of Education of Chile that match the topics developed in these plays. The analyses formed the basis for a focus group conducted with secondary school teachers regarding the potential use of the plays as interdisciplinary and contextualised pedagogical learning tools in secondary school courses, whose results indicate that implementing these plays may encourage students to critically analyse and discuss specific past and present-day Chilean conflicts from different disciplinary perspectives. This dissertation highlights Morales’ denounce of the ways authoritarian regimes repress anti-authoritarian contestant voices and manipulate public opinion through the media by focusing on the specific context of Chile. Moreover, it provides a long overdue visibilisation of the insufficiently studied agency of Morales’ plays as actors for social mobilization, engineering and transformation.
