Based on his wider experiences as academic and writer, Professor Zipes answered questions from PhD researchers about: writing books, monographs and edited collections; turning a PhD thesis into a monograph; choosing and approaching publishers; and the advantages of editing books and translations. It presents some general advice for writing and publishing aimed at postgraduate students. Professor Zipes is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, United States, a world expert on fairy tales and storytelling highlighting the social and historical dimensions of them. Zipes has forty years of experience publishing academic and mass-market books, editing anthologies, and translating work from French, German and Italian. This paper start whit some facts about violence in young couples. Bonds which consist of imaginary relationships with ‘significant women’ encountered by reading. Based on life story interviews and biographical visual timelines of British women schoolteachers, I focus on three narratives (two post-war [1945–1979] and one neo-liberal [1980–2015] generation). Drawing on a relational conceptualisation of subjectivity, I argue that Imagined Sisterhoods are an important experiential resource in becoming feminist. Women writers, feminists and women in history became ‘significant women’ in the lives of these teachers through reading and imagination. These Imagined Sisterhoods, despite being imaginary, have consequences for the lives of these teachers: the stories of women's experiences and struggles with patriarchy have provided feminist knowledge and a sense of belonging to a feminist collectivity, which is plural and under construction. An imaginary dialogue between women beyond differences is also part of this Imagined Sisterhoods.
