This paper is based on the theory of last mile delivery (with a strong focus on the methods of delivery) and customers’ preferences. It combines both theories to fulfil the paper’s goal. In the paper, the literature review and multivariate data analysis of rural e-customers in Poland were used. The hypothesis states that there is a requirement for different last mile delivery solutions in rural areas than in urban areas in Poland. The research was carried out on a sample of 1071 adult Poles, who are residents of rural areas, using the standardized and structured computer-assisted interview (CAWI). The authors used the chi-square independence test, the Student t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), regression models, and logistic models. The research shows that more than 60% of respondents living in...

The expectations of e-customers increase every year. They choose those companies that deliver goods faster and cheaper than others. A significant group of customers in Poland still selects home delivery. Many of them frequently return products to the retailer. These expectations and behaviour pose a challenge for the transport companies to deliver parcels to individual customers soon after the purchase, sometimes even on the same day. In addition, increasingly frequent deliveries contribute to environmental pollution, congestion, and accidents, as well as more expensive deliveries. Purpose of the article: The paper aims to identify e-customers? preferences and assess their impact on sustainable last-mile delivery (LMD) in the e-commerce market. The authors have also identified facto...

Maja Kiba-Janiak, Ph.D., Prof. of WUEB, financed by the National Science Centre in Poland, granted based on the decision number 2018/31/B/HS4/03711. The project answers the challenges created by the dynamically growing e-commerce market. Attractive purchase prices, low cost, short time, and convenient delivery places motivate consumers to shop online, which is a challenge for e-trade services and transport companies. Meeting the expectations of e-clients in terms of delivery of the purchased products leads to congestion, pollution, and road accidents. The project is the conceptualization of a model of sustainable city logistics in the field of last-mile delivery and the returns on the e-commerce market, including the tools stimulating stakeholders to change their preferences in terms of the last-mile delivery and goods return, making them more sustainable (environmentally,...

The relationship between the effective and efficient (especially rapid and relatively cheap) management of passenger traffic within the city, and the level and quality of life of its inhabitants is indicated more and more often. The analysis of the spatial variation of selected indicators of living standards which remain significantly related to the logistics system of the city, first of all requires proper quantifying of diagnostic variables.

To study customer needs and preferences conjoint analysis can be used. Conjoint analysis is a multidimensional method used to understand how consumers define their preferences for specific products or services. Conjoint analysis means constructing and conducting particular experiments among consumers in order to model their decision making process. The article is divided into two parts. In the first one the authors present general characteristics of the method and in the second one they interpret the results of their own empirical research.

It presents the results of quantitative research based on a questionnaire survey, which was conducted in three medium sized cities in Poland among 1600 citizens. The main goal of the research was to receive information about the correlation between city logistics and the quality of life. The article presents only a narrow part of the suvey research in the area of individual transport in terms of quality of life.

This problem was noticed by the European Commission, which began to promote the concept of sustainable urban mobility plans (SUMPs). The efficient implementation of SUMPs requires tools for its evaluation. However, in the literature, most proposed assessment tools relate mainly to passenger transport, omitting the freight transport. The purpose of this paper is to utilize a multiple criteria analysis with the use of the Promethee method in order to assess the level of advancement of selected European Union (EU) capital cities in the field of sustainable urban mobility plan formulation and implementation. This method has been applied on the basis of a survey conducted among representatives of 15 EU capital cities and analyses of transpo...

The paper is divided into three main parts. The first part presents a theoretical discussion about the relation between city logistics and quality of life. The second part presents assumptions for referential model of city logistics. In the last section of the paper auth ors describe selected results of survey research conducted among residents of medium sized city in Poland. The paper presents results of the second step of the research project "Reference Model of City Logistics versus Quality of Life of Citizens" financed from funds for science in the years 2010-2013.

On account of the limited paper length, the authors have focused on city public transport. The task assigned to city logistics as regards public transport is to find such solutions which to a considerable extent will improve the comfort and easiness of movement of people across cities. This paper represents results of a research into the impact of selected aspects of city logistics narrowed down to public transport on quality of life of middle sized city dwellers – in this case of Gorzów Wielkopolski, a town in the west of Poland
