The Gate of the Federal Institute of Goiás, in Goiânia, emerged in the context of the city's Cult... more The Gate of the Federal Institute of Goiás, in Goiânia, emerged in the context of the city's Cultural Baptism, in 1942, and was innovative in its constructive form and materiality.
Architect-engineer Jorge Félix de Sousa used the new technique of reinforced concrete as the main constructive element, associated with plastered and painted brick masonry.
The author used a cantilever slab, seeking to associate architectural slenderness with the physical fundamentals for its structure. Nearly 80 years after its inauguration, it was necessary its restoration.
This article discusses the processes used in restoration, as well as the origins of the gate concept.
