During the design phase of mechanical components, investigations into the concentration of mechan... more During the design phase of mechanical components, investigations into the concentration of mechanical stresses in geometric discontinuities are important for determining the limit efforts, in order to preserve structural integrity. The procedure for verifying active efforts during the design phase may influence the fatigue and mechanical fracture process. Based on the geometric and mechanical specifications of the polypropylene, obtained from the literature, the present work investigates the field of mechanical resistance through the methodology of numerical simulation, the finite element method. The case of failure of a handle on the lid of a residential fat box was investigated using a virtual 3D model. The boundary conditions such as measurement and application of force, restrictions on movement were verified. The failure criterion used was von Mises and the 1st main stress. The work of experimental analysis of mechanical stresses in parts, in most cases, using data acqu... more The work of experimental analysis of mechanical stresses in parts, in most cases, using data acquisition systems with significant market cost. The article presents a comparative study between mechanical stress tests using an experimental, numerical and analytical technique on specimens manufactured in thin steel sheets, with a hole and the absence of a hole. Two virtual 3D models identical as real plates were built and performed numerical simulations according to prescribed values of force. A low cost system for acquiring signals measured by stress meters was used and defined as boundary conditions based on the virtual model. In the analytical method for the comparative study, the equations constituting the strength of the materials were used based on the linear elastic regime of the material and the results were obtained in percentage relative to the analytical offer. A parte estrutural de um equipamento absorve esforcos estaticos e dinâmicos, maior parte por fadiga mecânica que e uma das principais causas de colapso em uma estrutura. A reducao de material para minimizar custos e o proprio peso do equipamento resulta na utilizacao de perfis estruturais com espessuras menores, essa nova configuracao demanda investigacoes da resistencia dos perfis mais esbeltos e analises por fadiga nas juncoes por soldagem, que sao as regioes de maior vulnerabilidade a falhas. Normativas tecnicas na area de estruturas em aco podem nao abranger todos os perfis tubulares em relacao ao projeto de estrutura na configuracao tubular de parede fina menores que 4 mm.
