One possible way to evaluate image quality in computer graphics is visual inspection by experts. Information visualization techniques are usually presented showing their use in experimental situations, employing some kind of analysis. Nevertheless, few works have specifically addressed the evaluation of such techniques. This work reports our results towards the definition of criteria for evaluating information visualization techniques, addressing the evaluation of visual representation and interaction mechanisms as a first step.

These techniques are usually interactive and provided as part of a graphical user interface. Information visualization techniques are usually reported showing their use in experimental situations, employing some kind of analysis. Nevertheless, few studies have specifically addressed the evaluation of such techniques. This paper reports our results towards the definition of criteria for evaluating information visualization techniques, addressing evaluation of visual representations and interaction mechanisms.

In this work we study the user reaction in relation to image guided surgery applications using different kind of visualization and guidance. Our goal is to identify practical basis that explains how mixed reality interfaces might provide support and augmentation for interactive applications. To accomplish that, we propose a model that allows the identification of the contribution of each independent variable in the final user interaction. The contribution rates were identified by applying user tests.

In addition to that, new hardware and sensors are being incorporated into these devices. The smartphone's embedded sensors are a low cost solution that allows interactions between humans, computers and the environment. Examples include applications designed to identify the user's location by GPS receiver, games that use accelerometers and/or gyroscope, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas that exchange information between users, microphones that perceive user's gestural movements, and so on. This paper presents a study of the various smartphones sensors, detailing their operation and identifying their main features, advantages, drawbacks, and potential of use for indoor location. We analyzed smartphones sensitive to sound, Wi-Fi, magnetic field, 3-dimensional linear acceleration and angular velocity. This study presented -as the ideal solution -a fusion of sensors to complement individual skills and to improve the information accuracy regarding the device's rotation and translation.
