Mario Ferraro is a composer, pianist, choir conductor and music director/producer in the fields of popular music, theatre and film/video documentary, having worked with some of the most renowned Brazilian artists for nearly two decades. since he won the "Camargo Guarnieri" National Competition in 2005, he has become a prominent figure in the scene of Brazilian contemporary classical music.

His international career has been widely developed during his stay in London for his doctorate in music at City University, London (2007-2012), and many of his works have been premiered there, including the chamber opera "The Moonflower", in 2011.

Celebrated for his lyricism and colourful imagination, Ferraro's music has been played all over the world, by musicians from the London Sinfonietta, The Royal Academy of Music, the Nieuw Ensemble of Amsterdam, the Villa-Lobos Quintet, among others, and has featured at 6 editions of the Biennial Festival of Brazilian Contemporary Music, in Rio de Janeiro.

In 2012, the composer won a prize from the Secretariat of Culture of Rio de Janeiro State for the commission of a musical multimedia project "Guanabara - Pictures for Orchestra, inspired on the Guanabara bay’s ecosystems.

His first opera for children, "Ahaiyuta and the Cloud Eater, was premiered in London, and had its Brazilian version performed in Rio during the 11th Festival Internacional Intercâmbio de Linguagens, in September 2013.

Winner of two awards at the 2014 “Funarte” Classical Composition Contest, with the works "Trapézio" (Trapeze, a sextet) and "Sambaquis" ("Shell-Mounds, for piano duo), both premiered during the XXI Biennial Festival of Brazilian Contemporary Music, in October 2015.

The composer presented "Medea", his third opera, during the 1st Bienal de Ópera Atual, in Rio de Janeiro, September 2016.

Since 2003, Mario Ferraro is teacher of music at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - Colégio de Aplicação.
