Blood samples for measurements of PRL were taken at the third month postpartum, before an episode of suckling and 30 minutes after the suckling was initiated. The average level of basal PRL was 1,033 +/- 113 mIU/L (mean +/- SE). Women who presented long periods of amenorrhea, had an increase of the basal PRL in 632 mIU/L (X), compare to those women who had their menses before 180 days postpartum (p = 0.036) women with longer amenorrhea (p = 0.06). However there were no relationship between the menses at the sixth month postpartum and the increase of post-suckling PRL (delta PRL). In this study it was found that the levels of basal PRL had correlation with the duration of the amenorrhea, in women with exclusive breastfeeding.

To assess the relationship between nutritional status, ethnicity and age of thelarche. Cross-sectional study of girls in second through sixth grade, attending 165 schools located in Chile's Araucania region. Of these, 231 girls who presented thelarche (breast button) were selected. The girls' surnames were used to identify their ethnicity: indigenous had three or four last names of Mapuche indigenous origin (n =113), while non-indigenous were those who only had Chilean-Spanish last names (n =118). Weight, height, waist circumference and skinfold thicknesses were measured and socio-economic background information was collected through a home interview. The median age of thelarche was 10 years and 4 months, regardless of ethnic group. Multivariant models showed that an increase of one z score unit of body mass index (BMI) decreased the median age of thelarche by 5.6 months (CI: -7.24 to -3.90), controlling for the effect of different covariables. A decrease in one z score of height retards the median age of thelarche by 5.5 months (CI: 4.02 to 6.98). Ethnicity did not influence the age of thelarche. The age of thelarche found by us is similar to that reported in international studies, it comes earlier as weight increases, is delayed as height decreases and is not related to ethnicity.

However, no studies have explored the phenomenon of the production of the neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) that are released into the female reproductive tract in these pathologies. This study aimed to determine the presence of NETosis in vaginal discharges of women with bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis, and trichomoniasis by characterizing NETs. Extracellular DNA with neutrophil elastase and citrullinated histones was identified to confirm the NET components (n = 10). The concentration, phenotypes of NETs, and number of NETotic cells were determined. The results showed an increase in NETotic cells in women with Candida albicans (CA) and Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) and an increase in NETs in TV-induced vaginitis. Samples of CA- and TV-infected women showed different NET phenotypes (diffNETs, sprNETs, and aggNETs); diffNETs were found in high concentra...
