Extension of the pendant arms generated {[Cd(1,4-phdp)(H4bpmp)](ClO 4 )Á3.5H 2 O} n (2, phdp = phenylenedipropionate), which possesses a rare (3,6) 2D trigonal lattice based on 6-connected {Cd 2 O 2 } dimers. Changing the nitrogen donor atom disposition by using 3bpmp as the nitrogen co-ligand yielded [Cd(1,4-phdp)(3-bpmp)(H 2 O)] n (3), which crystallizes in a 3-fold interpenetrated achiral diamondoid lattice. [Cd(1,3-phda)(4-bpmp)] n (4) adopts a very similar structure to that of 1. Complexes 1-4 undergo blue-violet luminescence upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

This paper describes how an adult zebrafish can be immobilized, intubated, and used for in vivo electrophysiological experiments, allowing recording of neural activity. Immobilization of the adult requires a mechanism to deliver dissolved oxygen to the gills in lieu of buccal and opercular movement. With our technique, animals are immobilized and perfused with habitat water to fulfill this requirement. A craniotomy is performed under tricaine methanesulfonate (MS-222; tricaine) anesthesia to provide access to the brain. The primary electrode is then positioned within the craniotomy window to record extracellular brain activity. Through the use of a multitube perfusion system, a variety of pharmacological compounds can be administered to the adult fish and any alterations in the neural activity can be observed. The methodology not only allows for observations to be made regarding changes in neurological activity, but it also allows for comparisons to be made between larval and adult zebrafish. This gives researchers the ability to identify the alterations in neurological activity due to the introduction of various compounds at different life stages.

Three divalent copper coordination polymers containing aromatic dicarboxylate ligands and the lon... more Three divalent copper coordination polymers containing aromatic dicarboxylate ligands and the longspanning tethering imine bis(4-pyridylmethyl)piperazine (bpmp) have been prepared and structurally characterized. The length of the dicarboxylate pendant arms, carboxylate binding mode, and the inclusion of anionic components play a synergistic role in structure direction in this system. {[Cu(ip)(bpmp)(H 2 O)]Á5H 2 O} n (ip = isophthalate, 1) displays neutral (4,4) rectangular coordination polymer grids that stack in an ABCD repeat pattern. Use of the longer pendant arm dicarboxylate 1,3-phenylenediacetate (phda) resulted in {[Cu 2 (phda) 2 (bpmp)]ÁH 2 O} n (2), a 3-D network coordination polymer with primitive cubic topology that features strongly antiferromagnetically coupled (J = À331(1) cm À1 ) {Cu 2 (CO 2 ) 4 } paddlewheel units. In the presence of excess nitrate ions, {[Cu(phda)(Hbpmp)](NO 3 )Á3H 2 O} n (3) was isolated instead of 2; 3 manifests cationic 2-D coordination polymer layers built from weakly antiferromagnetically coupled (J = À2.43(1) cm À1 ) {Cu 2 O 2 } dimers linked through phda and protonated bpmp ligands. The striking difference in magnetic properties is ascribed to the equatorial-equatorial versus axial-equatorial bridging of copper coordination spheres in 2 and 3, respectively.

Binuclear [Co 2 (phac) 4 (H 2 O)] units with both bridging and monodentate benzenecarboxylate ligands are linked into a twodimensional (4, 4) rhomboid grid network via dpa tethers within the structure of 1. Use of benzoate as the anionic component allowed the formation of [Co(benzoate) 2 (dpa) 2 ] (2), which manifested a dpa-linked one-dimensional chain coordination polymer motif with pendant monodentate and chelating carboxylates. Modest antiferromagnetic coupling was observed within the binuclear units in 1.

These three coordination polymers have been characterized via single crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy and elemental and thermogravimetric analysis. {[Cu(ph)(Hph)(H3-bpmp)(H 2 O)] Á 3H 2 O} (1, ph = phthalate) manifests a 1-D chain motif held into a pseudo 3-D supramolecular structure through hydrogen bonding. While both {[Cu(ip)(3-bpmp)(H 2 O)] Á 2H 2 O} (2, ip = isophthalate) and [Cu(tp)(3-bpmp)] (3, tp = terephthalate) exhibit 2-D (4,4) rhomboid grid-like layers, they possess different layer stacking patterns and supramolecular interactions due to coordination geometry variances.

[Co(NCS) 2 (3,3 0 -bpy) 2 ] (1), wherein the isothiocyanate ligands are coordinated in a trans fashion, manifests stacked two-dimensional (2-D) rhomboid grid layered motifs. In contrast, [Ni(NCS) 2 (3,3 0 -bpy) 2 ] (2) possesses a doubly interpenetrated adamantoid threedimensional (3-D) network despite the presence of trans isothiocyanate ligands. Thus, a metal cation-based control of coordination polymer dimensionality has been revealed in this system, reflective of different donor dispositions allowed by the conformational flexibility of the exobidentate 3,3 0 -bpy ligand. The 3-D framework of 2 decomposes at a temperature $40°C higher than the 2-D network of 1.
