This article aims to approach the Mudejar architecture developed in Mexico during the 16th and 17... more This article aims to approach the Mudejar architecture developed in Mexico during the 16th and 17th centuries. The subject has been little studied, although both general and specific contributions have been made by the author's research group. At the methodological level, this study is based on the existing bibliography, as well as archive and field research which allow for an accurate scientific approach and results. The article analyzes the social and productive conditions in Mexico during the Viceregal period, along with the systematization carried by the Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza, the guild ordinances and the architectural typologies. The perception of territory and the use of constructive models by the Viceregal authorities would justify the use of the Mudejar style as cultural and unity criteria.

La independencia de Cuba a fines del siglo XIX no supuso el fin de las relaciones ni de las in-fl... more La independencia de Cuba a fines del siglo XIX no supuso el fin de las relaciones ni de las in-fluencias de España en la isla. Por un lado, las asociaciones de carácter cultural relacionadas con las regiones de origen en la Península Ibérica se visualizaron con grandes arquitecturas y, por otro, las in-fluencias formales relacionadas con el orientalismo y la Alhambra también son visibles en la arqui-tectura de La Habana. Palabras clave: Neoárabe, Centros culturales, Arquitectura Habana, Influencias Hispanas, Cerámica sevillana. Cuban independence, taking place at the end of the XIXth Century, did not imply the end of the influence of, and the relationship with Spain. On the one hand, cultural associations related to different Iberian regions made themselves present in Cuban urban landscapes through remarkable architecture ; on the other, formal influences related to Orientalism and Alhambra were present in Havana architecture. El crecimiento de la ciudad de la Habana en el siglo XIX supondrá la entrada en la misma de modas constructivas ajenas a las tendencias mantenidas durante el periodo virreinal. Al igual que en el resto de los espacios culturales de occi-dente, los denominados " neos " o historicismos hacen su presencia apoyados, en el caso cubano, e inicialmente, en las tendencias que se desarrollan en la Península Ibérica al integrarse todavía la isla en el organigrama político hispano. Cronoló-gicamente este proceso se enmarca en la búsqueda de estilos " nacionales " , que en nuestro caso, el mudéjar o el gótico marcarán acciones concretas de carácter Influencias hispanas en la arquitectura de La Habana entre los siglos XIX y XX Rafael López Guzmán

El desarrollo urbanístico de América durante la época virreinal ha sido muy estudiado en los últimos años. Frente a las características genéricas cada día aparecen mas excepciones acordes con los lugares de asiento y con los grupos sociales que se integran. Las denominadas ciudades de españoles o administrativas en México constituyen modelos claros de estructuras ortogonales que crearon, a su vez, una red de control del territorio. El análisis de estos enclaves, basándonos en documentos como las Relaciones Geográficas de Felipe II constituye el objetivo de este texto.
The urbanistic development of America, during the viceregal period, has been vastly studied in recent years. Regardless of the generic characteris tics, every day exceptions appear according with the seats and the social groups present there. The so called cities for the Spaniards or administrations in Mexico (New Spain), represent clear models of orthogonal structures which generated a net for territorial control. The analysis of these enclaves based upon documents, such as the Relaciones Geográficas de Felipe II, constitute the main objective of this text.
