This was the case among the Yoruba of SouthWest Nigeria in respect of family system, before the incursion of globalization that ushered in foreign ideologies with attendant effects. The core Yoruba family structure was known for an effective crime control system, high moral standard, collectiveness, socialisation, respect for elders and good leadership. This was as a result of serious emphasis laid on communal living and the values that were characteristic of the family, which must be protected by all and sundry. However, the influence of globalization has resulted in the abandonment of this system, hence, the disarray that has bedevilled the family. However, this is not to say that globalisation is absolutely counterproductive. The aim of this paper is to investigate the effects of globalization on the Yoruba family structure. It adopts African Personalism, which emphasises the wholesome of human relations, as the theoretical base. The theory, stresses family fellow-feeling, respect for elders, communal living, hospitality, brotherhood and the import of morality. Recommendations centre on the imperative of imbibing Yoruba cultural heritage and the beneficial aspect of globalization.

Hence, religious policy is contained in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which forbids adoption of any religion as State religion and grants every citizen the right to freedom of religion without discrimination or favouritism on the grounds of religion. This provision is premised on religious plurality as evident in the country with citizens practising different religions. Thus, Nigeria is believed to be a secular society and by implication, religion must not be a determinant in decision- making and policy formulation. However, this projection has proved to be a mere theory as religious inclination always features in the public sphere. Several works have been done on religion and the Nigerian nation from different fields of study, save the aspect of the rule of law. This paper, therefore, examined religious policy in Nigeria and its implicit violation by government, institutions and citizens of the country to know its implications for the rule of law, unity and integration, socioeconomic development, human value and international relations. Recommendations were made towards ensuring careful handling of religious matters so as to avoid a crisisprone religious atmosphere in Nigeria. The paper adopted on Tariq Modood's Moderate Secularism, which advocates an accommodative model and respects religion, yet goes beyond both toleration and civic recognition. Using library research design method, the study consulted relevant literature, complemented by empirical evidences on issues that relate to religion and public affairs in Nigeria. While some people deny the reality of the gifts thereby camping with the cessationists, other parties submit to the continuation of the spiritual gifts among the contemporary Christians. However, in scholarship the discourse has taken different dimensions which include the theological, effectual, biblical and philosophical perspectives with little attention paid to the socio-ethical aspect of the matter which is the major concern of this paper. The work is premised on Thomas Hobbes’ Theory of Psychological Egoism, which emphasises the benefit or reward as the motivating factor for every action performed by man, this article intends to investigate the alleged commercialization of prophetic gifts among the Nigerian pastors and to determine whether this is the major cause for the increase of the demonstration of charismatic gifts in the...

Given this, murder attracts capital punishment. In spite of this understanding, some lives are perceived to be miserable and are thus not worth living. This is what led to the idea of euthanasia or mercy killing, which has generated much controversy amongst scholars in different fields of study like law and medicine, with no agreement arrived at. However, peoples' disposition to euthanasial given religious teaching on the sanctity of life in the light of contemporary reality has not been significantly explored. Therefore, this paper examined euthanasia from a religious perspective, with emphasis on Christianity, Islam and African Traditional Religion. It was premised on prudential personalist ethics of B. The aim of this paper is to examine the imperative of Christian ethical values towards attaining sustainable development in Nigeria. Data for the study were collected via exiting literature on the subject matter, statistical information on development issues, as well as personal experience of the researcher. The findings revealed that there has been no meaningful development in modern day Nigeria or a sustainable development as apparent in the level of poverty, infrastructure decay, falling standard of education, poor health care delivery system, low life expectancy and unemployment in the country. This development is largely attributable to the neglect of Christian ethical values by both the leaders and followers, who profess Christianity. Thus, the paper recommended moral transf...

This is obvious in the 21 st century Nigeria, where the church as an agent of development, has not only illuminated the society spiritually, but has equally been socially relevant in the health, political, education and economic sectors. This paper argued that the Chapel of the Resurrection, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, operates beyond the pulpit through her social transformation activities. It was premised on Emile Durkheim functionalism, which holds that religion has social effectiveness. Data were collected via in-depth interview with, twenty-five (25) people comprising members of the Chaplaincy, Chapel Committee, SubCommittee and the congregation, which was complemented with empirical evidences of social intervention activities of the church. It was established that the Chapel of the Resurrection, University of Ibadan has transformed the society in spite of some obvious challenges. The need for a reorganisation of the activities was recommended in order to ensure efficiency.
