Undoubtedly, one of the most extensive, challenging, and difficult undergraduate-level courses for students of English literature is Survey of English Literature, the lynchpins of which are defined and delineated, most frequently, based on the major historical period and writer introductions offered in the two thick and expensive volumes of The Norton Anthology of English Literature. Furthermore, and even more importantly, the general analysis of the recent M.A. entrance exams in English literature has convincingly shown that numerous and various parts—from introductions and timetables to footnotes—of these two volumes have been objects of direct query, putting a stamp of affirmation on the special significance of this anthology for both students and professors of English literature in Iran.
Given the limited availability and exorbitant price of these two volumes in Iran and also the at times complicated, lengthy, and hard-to-follow-and-categorize introductions of the events and authors, the present book has tried to do its best at summarizing, delineating, and outlining the most important and salient parts of each period and writer introduction.
The concise and comprehensive outlines offered in this book provide a general framework and overview of all the seven major historical periods that have been central and definitive to laying the foundation for English literature and determining the course of its historical and literary progression. Moreover, this indispensable companion features more than eighty literary masterminds—all anthologized in The Norton Anthology of English Literature, from the Middle Ages to the present—hoping to equip its readers with sufficient knowledge and background to successfully cultivate and shape their future academic pursuits, namely Masters and Doctoral programs.

Since the exam requires candidates to have a word-for-word knowledge of certain sources, a thorough detection of them is the most important step in the preparation. Certainly, the best way to overcome this beginning step is to analyze previous exams and investigate the sources question for question. This hard and exhausting work has been done in the present book with utmost precision. In addition, for each question, this book presents the excerpts from which questions have been made. Thus, candidates can be sure to have explanatory answers and exact sources for each question. It is noteworthy that some questions have been made through Internet sources and this book, to accomplish the mission of presenting exact sources, provides readers with their online links. It might seem that the bulk of sources makes it difficult for candidates to overcome all of them. While this argument is true, it should be born in mind that candidates should be selective in their sources as the experience of previous years shows that they are not supposed to answer a high percentage of questions. In the end, you are advised to regularly consult our website (JavidEdu.com) for newer editions of the book and take online exams in a simulated environment.

In this regard, this paper shall refer to the stances adopted by various thinkers against the colonial and ideological essence of English literature in these developing countries. In this part, references are made to postcolonial thinkers and the way they have exposed the barbaric nature of colonialism, in that it has, for decades, marginalized the culture and literature of other nations through cultural (neo)colonialism. Later on, we offer a brief introduction to the history of the emergence of world literature and how it contributes to bridging the gap between nations across continents and ideological divides. The final section is devoted to a recapitulatory remark vis-à-vis the reorientation of the public's eyes towards world literature as a panacea for the colonial prejudice of English literature.

Bhabha's postcolonial theories. Using a descriptive research methodology, the present study examines the way Noonuccal's poetry fashions resisting discourse in contemporary Australia. First of all, the introductory notes on postcolonial approach, colonial history of Australia and Noonuccal are presented and then postcolonial key terms including Hybridity, Third Space and Otherization are employed to read the selected poems with the purpose of highlighting the anticolonial inclinations in them. Throughout the study, Third Space which comes as a result of hybrid cultures is emphasized as a background for reflecting and reinforcing Aboriginal tendency in Australia. The valiant attempts waging the anticolonial struggles in Oodgeroo Noonuccal's poetry include expounding a view of history from the perspective of the colonized, pointing to the disappearance of Aboriginal culture and tradition and their revival, protesting against the states' unjust policies the regarding the Aborigines, putting an end to Otherization, and issuing a call for a just integration of blacks and whites.
