This panel seeks to engage with this work by focusing on how movement between centralization and decentralization in Indonesia has figured in the reconfiguration and revaluation of languages in the margins, hubs, and peripheries while also creating new margins, hubs, and peripheries. The papers will cover a diverse range of sociolinguistic practices in a broad range of domains (e.g. face-to-face talk, preaching, radio and television, education, heritage tourism, the bureaucracy, and so on).

It is empirically proved that teachers represent their identity and, at the same time, consciously influence their students. This is positively perceived by the students and they further explained that their teacher identity representation influences, to a certain extent, their identity building. However, from the previous studies, there is no yet empirical finding on how the teachers realize their identity. Therefore, investigating the teachers’ effort in inoculating their students’ identity in classroom is really worth doing. The data from the questionnaire and interviewed revealed that teachers have indicated to make any effort to build their students’ identity from the earlier stages of their teaching. It is interesting to note that these are done through various ways which tend to be sporadically and spontaneously done in classroom interactions. In ...

They challenge existing values, social categories and ideologies through their use of vernacular. This may project the contesting sociocultural situations which can stimulate newly deployed contemporary Javanese youth’s identity. Therefore, investigating how young people’s practices across spaces and the ways these practices are connected to local places or neighbourhoods is significant to do. This multi-dimension research which combined sociolinguistics and linguistic anthropology gathered the data from short stories on two Javanese magazines published in 2017-2018. Narrative sequences from the stories were treated as the sociolinguistic landscapes which mirrored the constellations of sociocultural constructions experienced by the youth. The analysis revealed that the youth’s life was projected within the academic contexts which reflected the urban a...

His controversies may be seen as a potential area that brings linguistic currency, which may trigger ideological implications due to its condensed power. This paper aims to report how such a controversial speech served a certain degree of power that represented a particular ideology. Wodak's discursive strategies were applied to analyze 15 data derived from Trump's speech as his response to the idea of proposing Jerusalem as the capital city. The results show that nomination or referential, predication, perspectivation, argumentation and intensification strategies were applied and essentially framed within positive selfpresentation. The fact that positive self-presentation mantles ideology and power via controversial statements galvanizes propositions, strengthening the acceptance of controversy in a different fashion. Based on the findings, it is recommended to further investigate power and ideology representation, which transpires ironical expressions as positive self-representations. Such ironical expressions may conceptualize the nature of ideological power in various patterns in different contexts.

Teachers need to be skillful in incorporating moral messages and character education in their teaching supported by suitable learning resources. The current research is conducted to fulfill the needs of the English teachers in Islamic junior secondary schools in Indonesia for supplementary materials that can support the integration of Islamic moral messages and values in the teaching of English. These needs were identified from data collected through questionnaires, FGDs, and interviews. The supplementary materials, which were designed based on the needs analysis, underwent expert validation and a pilot study. The final version of the materials consists of ready-to-use-worksheets and teacher's guide and is named the Islamic Life Resource Pack (ILRP).
