Yearly time series data has been included in data collection from year 1988 until 2019. To achieve the objective of the study, an estimation method of Autoregressive Distributed Lagged (ARDL) has been employed. The ARDL methodology consists of two steps analysis; first, ARDL Bound test which to determine the existence of cointegration relationship between child abuse and economics condition and second, ARDL Level Relation test with purpose to identify the cointegration relationship does significant in the long run. The findings have found cointegration relationship among the variables. However, only inflation (INF), unemployment (UEM), and minimum wage (MIN) appear significant to affect number of child abuse cases in Malaysia in the long run. The results suggest except poverty (POV), the number of child abuse cases in Malaysia are fully adjusted by the movement in INF, UEM...

This results in the lack of interpretation skills which are required in the content of written texts. One of the courses offered in a Malaysian Public University aim at honing skills such as reading comprehension skills and various critical thinking strategies that can be applied in reading and writing. TAWA is an innovation that assists students in a step-by-step approach in tackling one particular assessment (assignment) – Written Article Analysis, from the above mentioned course. In this particular assessment, students are to read and analyse a piece of writing using critical reading elements. Besides that, students also have to work through the article systematically, engaging with the author, such as identifying author’s tone, purpose of writing and intended audience. Students are also required to identify the main ideas and recognise supporti...

Studying literature can be challenging for ESL learners, more so during online learning. With post covid and the opening of schools, interesting modes of delivery need to, and can be incorporated into the teaching and learning of literature, in face-to-face classroom sessions. In order to fill the gap for an interactive, engaging and fun way to teach literary texts (poems), the researchers had designed a board game five years before the Covid pandemic. The board game became a tool to facilitate learning the poetry selections before the Covid period. Feedback from students and teachers then, showed that the majority of the students and teachers responded positively to such an innovation. The objective of this study is to revisit board games post-covid and assess if these are effective and well received by students after purely online teaching and learning. A survey was carried out among students in two schools, whereby this innovation was found to be well received and an effective tool for teaching and learning of poetry, after online classes. Hence, with post-covid, innovations which are not digital or technologically driven, can and should be integrated into classroom teaching and learning modes, where possible. The authors suggest a combination of methodsdigital and non-digital means, while being able to meet in face-to-face situations in classrooms, in the teaching and learning curriculum in schools. Hence, the case for the integration of board games, into the post-Covid era.

With the new cycle of poems introduced by the Ministry of Education in 2015, the teachers responded with great concerns over how to teach their students, who found poetry difficult and boring. Furthermore, the teachers found poetry less favourable compared to other literary genres. In order to fill the gap of a better understanding of the poems, in more engaging ways, the researchers designed a board game. The compulsory (new) poems for Forms Four and Five were used. 20 students and 40 teachers participated in this study. Data comprised the responses of the students and teachers, to the questionnaire and interview after the game. The game sessions were videotaped. The analysis of the data showed that the participants responded positively to the game. Hence, this game served as a supplementary tool in the teaching and learning of poetry in more engaging ways.

During online communication, the art and etiquette of communication is often omitted. We, the researchers observed that online interactions tend to be careless and too quick with expressions of anger or just, communication that is quick, resulting in sometimes inadvertent rude, abrupt and ambiguous communication. Hence, to address this problem, we designed a mobile app called, “Wait”. The objectives of this app are to enable students and members of the public, to “wait”, think and refer to alternative ways on how to begin, end and use specific keywords in response to various general situations using polite expressions. This app is an easy- to- use mobile app. The researchers conducted a preliminary study with school and college students whereby they were given online questionnaires before and after using the Apps. The focus of the main study was on teacher learning in teacher literature circles. However, this article focuses on the roles played by teachers during teacher literature circles. The roles are described and identified as they emerged from the data. Three teachers and the researcher met informally in the school library and discussed the new text once a week over a period of seven weeks. The teacher literature circle discussions were recorded and transcribed. The study found that the emergent roles facilitated the teachers’ meaning making processes, as the teachers tried to understand the text, which they had to teach to their students.

Yet students in schools seem to respond in more efferent ways, and this could be attributed to the efferent teaching of literature in schools. An aesthetic stance refers to paying attention to feelings and ideas that words evoke, while the efferent stance refers to reading for information. Both stances are required and valued in reading and response but the preponderance of the efferent stance among students is a concern. Often the joy of reading literature is taken away from students and replaced with efferent informational reading of literary texts. This study examines tertiary students‟ written literary responses before and after reader response activities of two short stories. The responses were categorized according to the efferent/aesthetic continuum by Cox and Many (1992) from levels one to five. The findings revealed that before the exposure to Reader Response, students‟...

Learning the written forms can be challenging, especially for non-native speakers. Furthermore, teachers found this component to be problematic, based on learners’ classroom written tasks. In order to assist learners’ comprehension of the written form, a board game called ‘Catch Me If You Can’ was developed. The focus of this study is to find out the effectiveness of the board game in learning the written forms. The study sample consisted of 20 respondents from a local University. Data comprised the responses from questionnaires and interviews. A pre and post test was administered to gauge students’ performance in the written tasks. The findings showed the respondents enjoyed learning the written forms in a fun and engaging way. Hence, this game can be used as complementary tool in the teaching and learning of written forms.

Five aspects of learning satisfaction are looked at: rewards, social life, learning condition, recognition and quality of education. The researchers also looked at six independent variables : age, gender, marital status, working experience, income and program. A total of 186 questionnaires were distributed but only 178 were received. Data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The results revealed that the majority of the respondents indicated an intermediate level of satisfaction towards the five aspects of the learning environment provided by the campus. Many adult learners met the satisfactory level of the CSSQ scale except for the learning condition aspect which was slight. It was also discovered that age, study level and marital status played a significant role in influencing learning satis...
