On the other side, bacterial resistance to antibiotics are rising, so is needed to find a new anti-infective agents. Garcinia dulcis (Roxb.) Kurz. is one of the medicinal plants are reported to contain antibacterial compounds in flowers, fruits, seeds, bark and roots. However, an antibacterial compound from the leaves has not been reported, therefore this study aimed to isolate the antibacterial compounds from the G.dulcis leaves and determine antibacterial activity and chemical structure description. Method of Isolation of antibacterial compound from the G. dulcis leaves was directed by bioassay against Staphylococcus aureus. Quorum sensing is a communication system among bacterial cells which correlates with biofilm form... more Quorum sensing is a communication system among bacterial cells which correlates with biofilm formation. Biofilm can protect bacteria from environment including antibiotic of which can cause higher antibiotic concentration of 100 up to 1000 times. Inhibition of quorum sensing is expected to inhibit the biofilm formation. The cinnamon bark (Cinnamomum burmanii Ness. Ex Bl.) has been known to have antibacterial and antibiofilm activities. Leaves are available abundantly which urges a research to find out the activity as anti quorum sensing against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Aims of this study is to determine the potential of cytotoxicity of Fraction of Ethyl Acetate and Dichlorometane against T47D cell. Fractionation using Vacuum Liquid Chromatography (VLC) method. MTT assay method was used on evaluating the citotoxic activity. The fraction of dichloromethane performed high activity as a chemopreventive agent with IC50 score was 131,921 µg/ml to T47D and 413,042 µg/ml cells to vero cell whereas for ethyl acetate fraction performed lower activity as chemopreventive agent with IC50 score was 531,808 µg/ml to T47D and 679,114 µg/ml to vero cell). Phytochemical tests showed that the dichloromethane fraction contains phenolic, steroid and terpenoid compounds. While ethyl acetate fraction contains alkaloids, flavonoids and terpenoids. Methods: Survey research conducted on the people of Minggir and Cangkringan districts, Sleman Regency. Sampling of 240 respondents was done by cluster sampling method. Green basil essential oil (GBEO) contain chemical compounds that have an anti-bacterial activities. Methyl eugenol and methyl chavikol are in green basil oil has the potential to be used as a material which is biologically active. Conversion reaction of the compounds in GBEO with MAOS methods (microwave assisted organic synthesis) aims to obtain properties of the main chemical component in a wider sweet basil oil, and are also useful in an attempt to gain more valuable compounds for commercial and higher. The results showed that the optimum reaction conditions on the conversion reaction of compounds in GBEO with MAOS method with ethylene glycol as a solvent is 10 % KF/Al 2 O 3 as catalyst and reaction time 3 minutes , while the solvent is glycerol 10 % KF/Al 2 O 3 as catalyst and reaction time 2 minutes. Comparison of anti-bacterial activity resulting from this research are : the inhibitory activity to the growth of S. aureus bacteria have the following order : GBEO > green basilEG10-3 > green basil G10-2> amoxicillin with each inhibition zone diameter amounted to 30.7 mm, 21.1 mm, 18.2 mm and 13.4 mm. While the inhibitory activity to the growth of E.coli bacteria are : GBEO> green basil G10-2 >green basil EG10-3 > amoxicillin with each inhibition zone diameter of 21.1 mm, 15.6 mm , 15.2 mm and 7.9 mm. GBEO and its derivatives have minimal inhibitory concentrations below 1.25 %. From the results of the study found that the main derivates obtained are p-methoxy anisaldehyde , caryophyllene oxide , 3-methoxy cinnamaldehyde , humulena oxide and delta cadinol .

Background: Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, therefore struggles to find m... more Background: Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, therefore struggles to find more effective treatment and prevention is needed. Several studies has been performed using natural ingredients, one of which is Temu Kunci (B. pandurata). Temu Kunci extract contains flavonoid pinostrobin that has been showed as having cytotoxicity effects. Cytotoxicity tests of pinostrobin have been performed on several tumor cell lines, but its cytotoxicity effect on HeLa cell line has never been reported. Objective: To assess cytotoxicity effect of pinostrobin temu kunci on HeLa cell culture Methods: This study used simple experimental design. Pinostrobin were isolated from temu kunci and proved by TLC densitometry compared to standard pinostrobin. HeLa cell culture were treated with pinostrobin with concentrations 5, 25, 50, 75, 100, and 250 ug/mL. Cytotoxicity test were performed by MTT assay. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA. Results: There was significant difference (p=0.000) of means of cell viability percentage, respectively: 92.58 ± 9.84 (5µg/mL), 91.78 ± 4.4 (25µg/mL), 80.09 ± 4.51 (50µg/mL), 76.89 ± 7.75 (75µg/mL), 67.85 ± 11.31 (100µg/mL), dan 48.82 ± 16.61 (250µg/mL). The IC50 was 250µg/mL. Conclusion: Pinostrobin showed no active cytotoxicity effect on HeLa cell culture. Latar Belakang: Penyakit kanker merupakan salah satu penyebab morbiditas dan mortalitas yang tinggi hampir di seluruh dunia, sehingga diperlukan berbagai upaya untuk pencarian pengobatan dan pencegahan yang lebih efektif. Beberapa penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan bahan yang berasal dari alam. Salah satu bahan alam Indonesia yang banyak diteliti adalah tumbuhan rimpang Temu Kunci (B. pandurata). Daun kersen (Muntingia calabura L.) diketahui mengandung beberapa senyawa yang memiliki aktivitas... more Daun kersen (Muntingia calabura L.) diketahui mengandung beberapa senyawa yang memiliki aktivitas sebagai antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus, salah satunya adalah flavonoid. Flavonoid bekerja sebagai antibakteri dengan beberapa mekanisme aksi, diantaranya menghambat sintesis asam nukleat, menghambat fungsi membran sitoplasma dan menghambat metabolisme energi dari bakteri. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat mengetahui kadar bunuh minimum (KBM) ekstrak dan fraksi daun kersen terhadap S. aureus, untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri yang paling besar dari ekstrak etanol dan masing-masing fraksi serta korelasi antara aktivitas antibakteri dengan kandungan flavonoid total. Serbuk sampel kering dimaserasi dengan etanol 96%. Ekstrak etanol dipartisi dengan fraksinasi cair-cair secara berturut-turut menggunakan heksan, etil asetat, dan air. Ekstrak etanol dan masing-masing fraksi kemudian diuji aktivitas antibakterinya terhadap S. aureus dengan metode dilusi menggunakan media Mueller Hinton Broth (MHB) pada konsentrasi 20 mg/mL, 15 mg/mL, 10 mg/mL, dan 5 mg/mL. Sebagai kontrol pembanding digunakan antibiotik Seftazidim, pelarut DMSO, dan media MHB. Kuersetin digunakan sebagai standar pembanding dalam mengukur kandungan flavonoid total menggunakan Spektrofotometer UV-Vis. Analisis hasil dilakukan dengan membandingkan kadar flavonoid total dari ekstrak etanol dan masing-masing fraksi dengan KBM. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fraksi etil asetat merupakan fraksi yang paling aktif dengan KBM 0,312 mg/mL, sekaligus sebagai fraksi yang memiliki kadar flavonoid total paling besar yaitu sebesar 5,624 % QE. Analisis korelasi Pearson menunjukkan aktivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak etanol dan masing-masing fraksi, 93% dipengaruhi oleh kandungan flavonoid total.

Background: Acne is a skin disorder characterised by inflammation, accompanied by a blockage of t... more Background: Acne is a skin disorder characterised by inflammation, accompanied by a blockage of the oil glands in the skin. One of the causes of acne is Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Many plants have been widely studied as an antibacterial agent, including Garden Balsam Leaf (Impatiens balsamina L.) which could be formulated in a peel-off gel preparation. Objective: The purpose of this research was formulating an antibacterial peel-off gel mask with a variation of viscosity enhancing agent hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), as well as testing its antibacterial activity on Staphylococcus aureus. Methods: HPMC 1-2% was formulated in peel-off gel mask of Garden Balsam leaf extract. Physical properties such as viscosity, pH, spreadability, and drying time were tested, while antibacterial activity test was conducted by the agar-diffusion method. Results: The viscosity of the entire formula was > 20,000 cP, pH 6, drying time > 20 minutes, and spreading power > 6 cm. Also, the peel-off gel mask also showed antibacterial activity on Staphylococcus aureus with average inhibition zone were > 10 mm, which indicated strong antibacterial inhibitory power. Conclusion: The concentration variation of HPMC had a significant effect on all physical properties test. HPMC 1.5% in the preparation showed the most optimum results. Latar Belakang: Jerawat merupakan gangguan pada kulit yang ditandai dengan adanya peradangan disertai penyumbatan saluran kelenjar minyak dalam kulit. Salah satu penyebab jerawat adalah bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Tanaman yang telah banyak diteliti sebagai antibakteri adalah tanaman pacar air (Impatiens balsamina L.). Tanaman ini dapat diformulasikan dalam bentuk sediaan masker gel peel-off. Tujuan: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memformulasikan masker gel peel-off dengan ekstrak daun pacar air sebagai antibakteri dengan membuat variasi konsentrasi bahan peningkat viskositas Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC) serta uji aktivitasnya terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Kuersetin digunakan sebagai standar pembanding dalam mengukur kandungan flavonoid total menggunakan Spektrofotometer UV-Vis. Analisis hasil dilakukan dengan membandingkan kadar flavonoid total dari ekstrak etanol dan masing-masing fraksi dengan KBM. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fraksi etil asetat merupakan fraksi yang paling aktif dengan KBM 0,312 mg/mL, sekaligus sebagai fraksi yang memiliki kadar flavonoid total paling besar yaitu sebesar 5,624 % QE. Analisis korelasi Pearson menunjukkan aktivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak etanol dan masing-masing fraksi, 93% dipengaruhi oleh kandungan flavonoid total.

One of the causes of acne is Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Many plants have been widely studied as an antibacterial agent, including Garden Balsam Leaf (Impatiens balsamina L.) which could be formulated in a peel-off gel preparation. Objective: The purpose of this research was formulating an antibacterial peel-off gel mask with a variation of viscosity enhancing agent hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), as well as testing its antibacterial activity on Staphylococcus aureus. Methods: HPMC 1-2% was formulated in peel-off gel mask of Garden Balsam leaf extract. Physical properties such as viscosity, pH, spreadability, and drying time were tested, while antibacterial activity test was conducted by the agar-diffusion method. Results: The viscosity of the entire formula was > 20,000 cP, pH 6, drying time > 20 minutes, and spreading power > 6 cm. Also, the peel-off gel mask also showed antibacterial activity on Staphylococcus aureus with average inhibition zone were > 10 mm, which indicated strong antibacterial inhibitory power. Conclusion: The concentration variation of HPMC had a significant effect on all physical properties test. HPMC 1.5% in the preparation showed the most optimum results. Latar Belakang: Jerawat merupakan gangguan pada kulit yang ditandai dengan adanya peradangan disertai penyumbatan saluran kelenjar minyak dalam kulit. Salah satu penyebab jerawat adalah bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Tanaman yang telah banyak diteliti sebagai antibakteri adalah tanaman pacar air (Impatiens balsamina L.). Tanaman ini dapat diformulasikan dalam bentuk sediaan masker gel peel-off.
