These studies and discussions have provoked questions about the scientific nature of the foundations of business models. This article attempts to verify whether the proposed constructions of business models meet the objectives of abduction, which is, according to the methodology of science, one of the recognised methods to verify the scientific nature of created theories. The verification was performed by using the method of the Scientific Research Tradition (ScRT) by Larry Laudan. The result unequivocally confirmed that the theory of business models that is created and defined based on management sciences falls under the scope of ScRT. It can be said that according to the methodology of science, the business models theory proposed on the basis of management science points to abduction as a tool that allows for a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of formation and opens a new way of interpretation than is the case when using deduction or induction. Keywords: economic methodology, abduction as scientific evolutionary approach to economic methodology, business model, business economics, scientific foundation of economics and management theories

Te badania i dyskusje budziły wątpliwości dotyczące naukowego charakteru modeli biznesowych. Kwestia naukowych podstaw modeli biznesowych została w tym artykule poddana analizie i ocenie, z wykorzystaniem Metodologii Tradycji Badań Naukowych (MTBN) zaproponowanej przez Larrego Laudana. Uzyskany tą drogą rezultat potwierdził, że teoria modeli biznesowych, która jest tworzona w oparciu o fundamenty naukowe zarządzania mieści się w zakresie MTBN.During the last two decades, the literature in management studies has shown a significant increase in interest in the theory of business models, and there has been wide-ranging discussion about the definitions of those models.

The main aim of this article is to present the results of research on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on leading ICT enterprises’ financial performance. The research covered the three leading ICT enterprises: International Business Machines (IBM), Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (Samsung) and Canon Kabushiki Kaisha (Canon). The research covered the 15-year period from 2007 to 2021, which included the pandemic period of 2020–2021. This allowed for the evaluation of the dynamic rate of change over time and more precise comparison of the changes in the financial performance indicators during the pandemic period. The main conclusions are that despite significant restrictions, lockdowns and many infections, the COVID-19 pandemic has had no significant impact on the financial performance of the enterprises studied in the research. The research provides new knowledge about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on leading companies in the ICT industry. Further research on the impact of this pandemic may reveal details about more factors that influenced the business activities in other sectors of the economy.

IC is analysed as a single stream of enterprises’ internal resources. Since IC is used in the business activities of enterprises, it must also be acquired. However, research conducted so far does not cover the area of IC acquisition. The purpose of this paper is to present the results of research undertaken in a relatively new area of IC acquisition that has not been scientifically explored over a research period of several years. The research covered innovative small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that were developing software in Poland from 2005 to 2019. The data series allowed the use of dedicated analysis tools, including the dynamic changes over time, multidimensional comparison and cluster analysis. The primary conclusions revealed that the acquisition of IC is a process that takes place simultaneously and continuously in two independent streams—internal an...

The question asked is about the relation between gender, research and innovation. The paper is based on the data from European Patent Office (EPO) for years 1999-2013 concerning creative activities by women and men in business sector. For the purpose of the analysis, leading countries have been selected in terms of patent activities, which were then divided into two groups-10 leading countries from the EU, and three leading countries from the transition economies. The main objective of the paper is to compare the dynamics of three variables: R&D expenditures, number of women and men employed as R&D personnel or researchers in business enterprise sector, number of women and men recognized in EPO database as inventors of patents that are employed in business sector.

Thus combining gender issue and innovativeness should be explored in search of extraordinary sources of progress. The purpose of this article is to verify outcomes of one of the themes: the identifi cation of differences between women and men in functionalities and types of knowledge themes obtained from the Internet. The hypothesis was: making the Internet available does not require creative thinking skills from students in acquiring knowledge from the accessible sources online or its operationalization, thus they have to be learned as part of the teaching process. The article contains the results of a pilot survey study conducted among students. The hypothesis was confi rmed. Students using the Internet, and particularly social networks, do not creatively seek new sources of knowledge and resources, and also cannot operationalize or work independently and creatively on these resources. Internet access as such is not enough. It is necessary to for it to be refl ected in the formal transfer of knowledge in universities, as exercises, personal training, or other forms of training, to prepare students for the effi cient and effective use of the Internet.
