Beauty Products I heard somewhere that beauty products cost pennies to make but sell for pounds. (From Sir Alan Sugar!)

Anyone tried making their own 'luxury' body creams or lotions?
I am a beauty-product-o-holic, you name it, its in my cuboard, I'd like to try making my own. Is it really possible to make stuff like blackhead removing scrub and intensive hair conditioners?

Also I found (from the Duggar family of all places) people making their own laundry liquid, that seemed like a good idea to me!

London or Oxford second hand shops Can anyone recommend some good second hand clothing shops in London or Oxford?
I have some clothes I want to drop off. I don't want to sell them or anything, although I might look around so I'd prefer a place with good prices. I'm not at all familiar with the area so nearby tube or rail stations would help.

Free Theatre Tickets (UK, under 26 only) Arts Council England in association with the Metro have come up with a scheme that offers free theatre tickets to those under 26, to try to encourage young people to see more plays.

Basically, most, if not all theatres in the UK are participating. You can go here and search by postcode to find the theatres close to you, Most will not allow online booking for the free tickets, and they are, of course, subject to availability. And you'll need a photo ID to prove your age. The tickets are only available for Friday night performances, and the scheme's set to continue until March 2011.

Coke bottles Ahem. Not a coke or diet coke drinker (tho' was horrifically addicted to diet coke in the past), but for the past six months at least there have been 12 digit cokdes printed underneath the labels of coke and diet coke bottles (look for the ones with "coke zone" written on the cap). I write down the code and input them into the Coke Zone website (cokezone.co.uk) and you can exchange them for handy things like WH Smiths vouchers (£5 voucher for 100 points - I buy stamps...) and Cineworld Cinema ticket vouchers (1 ticket for 50 points - I use these to pay my occassional babysitter). The small bottles (500ml) have codes worth 2points, so for finding 50 bottles I can buy a fivers-worth of stamps, or 25 bottles buys me an hour and a half of toddler-free bliss. They have other "rewards" too, but these are the best two for me.

I pick empty bottles out of bins and up off the street, or offer to take it home to recycle if I see someone finishing one at playgroup or on the bus. After writing down all the codes I do indeed recycle them. Go me. Once you start looking for discarded bottles they are everywhere! I've never yet found a code that had already been used - I suppose most people can't be bothered. I do like to see myself as a modern-day rag and bone (wo)man.

Giftmas It's that time of year...

So what are your best frugal gift ideas for this year?

Any really great festive bargains we should all know about?

I'm going to make home made fudge and chocolate truffles for people, I've got some pretty cups and saucers that I picked up for pennies at a car boot sale which will look really neat filled with the sweeties and tied up with netting. I'm also making jewellery and doing some tie bleach and stencil bleached t-shirts. You can get plain coloured t-shirts for a couple of quid, all you do is lay a few bits and pieces on them, spritz with a solution of bleach and wait for it to develop, then dunk into a bucket of water with a bit of vinegar and run through the washing machine.

Wetherspoons pub vouchers I know this reaches a new low in 'pikeyness' however...

Several friends have for two years running offered me a Wetherspoons pub voucher or two. Apparently they recieved these through the post gratis. These pub vouchers do make drinking in bars more affordable but I would like some vouchers of my own since I am getting just a little peeved at my friend's smugness over receiving free vouchers in the post for years.

I have tried the Wetherspoon free magazine and the Wetherspoon site but I cam find nothing that might help me elicit a post of free vouchers from Wetherspoons.

Does anyone here know how I may apply to Wetherspoon for these vouchers?

I have cross posted to other sites interested in money-saving before I crosspost to 'beer fan' sites (I can imagine the smug replies now(: )

Laptops

Crossposted- don't get cross.

Any scallys out there?

Friend of mine who was on a business trip said he saw brand new laptops with packaging & gaurantees for sale at an open air market some where in Liverpool - central I think.

But the thing is they were going for £100! They may be crap but my mate's not savy enough to check and memorise the specs.

Anyone here got anymore information on this?

I'm not so keen on going up to Liverpool but I am interested wether this is an indication that all the Xmas toys that didn't sell last year are now up for grabs somewhere cheap.

aluminium polish. Hi people, looks like an interesting community and fits in nicely with what I'm presently doing, ie trying to save a moped from the landfill, idealy on a budget.

I'm struggling to justify the £4.99 cost of Solvol autosol, but in the same breath I'm needing to polish up some aluminium Forks and remove rust from steel parts on said "ped", have tried baking soda and vinigar on the aluminium parts, but that leaves them dull and no amount of elbow grease removes the corroded "Pits" the way Solvol does.

Any ideas, anyone.

I am helping to do the food for an engagement party, there will be about 50 people. There can be no yeast at all as the bride to be is allergic and will pretty much stop breathing if she gets too close to yeast. if she is near yeast. So anyone have any ideas for cheap but nice food we can do?

Road kill We don't feed our dogs (pictured) tinned or dried stuff, but instead buy meat in from the local butcher, and make them some stuff up ourselves.

This morning, I was on the way to the butchers', via dropping Daughter at school, and just up the road we passed what looked like a dead rabbit, lying in the middle of the road, and obviously a result of a collision with a car. I dropped Daughter at school, and instead of heading to the butchers', headed back the way I came with the intention of picking up the road kill rabbit (if it wasn't too pasted to the tarmac) to save a bit of money. Of course, when I got back there, poor dead rabbit turned out to be a poor dead (very young) fox, and so instead of picking it up, I figured I'd come to the great wisdom that is LJ, and ask for your advice.

So, road kill - do you pick it up at all? Would you pick it up to feed dogs with even if you wouldn't use it to feed yourself? If you would, would/do you limit yourself to road kill fluffy bunnies, or is pretty much anything fair game? What wouldn't you pick up, either for yourself, or for dogs, and why not?
