About us

CDP is a global non-profit that runs the world’s environmental disclosure system for companies, cities, states and regions. Founded in 2000 and working with more than 680 financial institutions with over $130 trillion in assets, CDP pioneered using capital markets and corporate procurement to motivate companies to disclose their environmental impacts, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests. Nearly 20,000 organizations around the world disclosed data through CDP in 2022, including more than 18,700 companies worth half of global market capitalization, and over 1,100 cities, states and regions. Fully TCFD aligned, CDP holds the largest environmental database in the world, and CDP scores are widely used to drive investment and procurement decisions towards a zero carbon, sustainable and resilient economy. CDP is a founding member of the Science Based Targets initiative, We Mean Business Coalition, The Investor Agenda and the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative. As we enter a critical second week of negotiations at #COP29, we know that governments have to agree on an ambitious new finance goal in order to meet their commitments already set out in the Paris Agreement and the Global Stocktake. To G20 Leaders: 38,000+ businesses and society leaders are ready to transform the global economy. To do this, we have two asks: ➡ Move the money: Agree a high-ambition finance goal at COP29 which catalyzes the finance required to meet the needs of developing economies. ➡ Publish the plans: Submit national climate plans by February that are 1.5°C-aligned, sector-specific and backed by investment positive policies that can turbocharge sustainable growth. As heads of state prepare to meet at the #G20Summit in Rio de Janeiro, they have an opportunity to build on the progress from COP28 and galvanize policy negotiations at COP29 in Baku. In a new statement coordinated by We Mean Business Coalition and #Mission2025, networks connecting more than 38,000 businesses around the world deliver a powerful message to G20 leaders. COP29’s ambition is unreachable without the power of SMEs, and #ClimateProofingSMEs is here to ensure that small and medium-sized businesses are empowered to lead the way. #ClimateProofingSMEs elevates the role of SMEs in the journey to a resilient, net-zero future. By bringing together global and local organizations, it creates a connected supporting ecosystem for SMEs to tackle systemic barriers and build their capacity to not only survive but shape the pathway and thrive as a result of the green transition. CDP is stepping up our efforts to better support and empower SMEs across major and emerging markets and has launched a dedicated SME questionnaire in 2024, making it easier for small businesses to understand their climate impact, identify focus areas, and act. In our last cycle, more than 12,500 SMEs disclosed through CDP, creating more robust data that will drive informed decision-making, financing, and action to keep 1.5°C alive. 📢 Standardized environmental data is the backbone of the Paris Agreement. As governments gather in Baku for #COP29, CDP was delighted to share some updates on our collaborations with EFRAG and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and our efforts to streamline reporting and increase access to consistent, comparable data. With the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB)’s climate standard, IFRS S2, as CDP’s foundational baseline for climate disclosure, you might be wondering how it all fits together. You can find out more below ⬇️ As companies navigate a complex reporting landscape, CDP and our partners are aligned on the solution: “write once, use many”. The ethos behind CDP’s alignment is that companies are best served if they can continue to disclose once to CDP and have their data used by many capital market actors, customers, policymakers and more. This has led more than 24,800 companies to disclose IFRS S2-aligned data through CDP in 2024.
📢 New report released today as COP29’s Energy Day kicks off. Major global companies are falling short in their use of renewables, with nearly half using no renewable electricity at all. As #COP29 calls for urgent and accelerated climate action, CDP's data highlights immense, untapped potential in corporate renewable energy use. 📢 CDP and GRI are deepening their collaboration, following an agreement signed by Sherry Madera and Cristina Gil White at #COP29 in Baku. Through their continued partnership, CDP and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) will work together to build capacity and streamline disclosure for companies, boost access to comparable data and ensure environmental reporting reflects the highest ambition.
