The climate action platform accelerating climate solutions through collaboration and community
About us
The Extreme Hangout is a climate action platform that was inspired by our love of adventure sports, the natural world, and our passion for protecting the planet. The Extreme Hangout’s purpose is to give young changemakers a voice, popularise the climate movement and inspire urgent environmental action. We create events which are places for engagement, inspiration, education, and entertainment. To date we have delivered over 17 events, had over 30,000 visitors, worked with over 1000 wonderful speakers and story tellers from Lily Cole and Bear Grylls to Paul Polman and the Prime Minister of the Bahamas. First launched at COP26 in Glasgow, followed with further great success at COP27 in Egypt “The most beautiful, engaging event and maybe the coolest venue at COP27” Ivan Duque Marquez, Former President of Colombia stated. At Cop 28 in Dubai, we were invited to become an official COP Partner and locate in the Green Zone, and we are now making plans for COP29 in Baku and rolling out our Extreme Hangout local series. Extreme Hangout Local is 1-2 day events locally organised and hosted by passionate climate advocates working with brilliant changemakers, influencers, entrepreneurs, NGOs, brands, companies, cities and tourism boards. The Extreme Hangout central team provide the brand under a licence agreement, our conference manual which explains in detail how to run an Extreme Hangout, overarching themes and speaker advice, media platform access, content editing and distribution. The First Local Extreme Hangout Events took place in London on 30th June - For more information please check out https://www.extremehangout.org/calendar-events-attend

Can tourism bring peace? On #WorldTourismDay, we’re celebrating this year’s theme, 'Tourism and Peace', by reflecting on the strength and resilience of Ukraine’s tourism community. Earlier this year, we created a powerful film for UkraineNow to highlight their unwavering hope and to remind the world that Ukraine’s future as a tourist destination is still bright. Despite being on the frontlines, these passionate individuals are dreaming of the day they can welcome travellers back to their beautiful country. 💙💛 Watch the video and read the full story on our blog to see how tourism can be a beacon of recovery and peace 👉 https://lnkd.in/d4wiZUhM #FINNPartnersTravel - Our incredible friends and partners at Sacred Headwaters have been shortlisted for the prestigious Earthshot Prize! 🌍 Their tireless work in climate action and sustainable development has been instrumental in driving positive change globally.#EarthshotPrize #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #SacredHeadwaters #ExtremeHangout
Incredible news! 📰 We’re excited to officially announce that Amazon Sacred Headwaters Alliance (ASHA), representing one of the world's largest Indigenous-led conservation initiatives, has been selected as a Finalist for the The Earthshot Prize in the "Protect and Restore Nature" category! 🌍✨ It's an honor to be nominated alongside this amazing cohort of climate action trailblazers, working to tackle the world's most urgent environmental challenges. ASHA is committed to protecting 35 million hectares (86 million acres) of Amazon rainforest, home to over 30 Indigenous nationalities in Ecuador and Peru. 🌳 Head to The Earthshot Prize Prize channels to find out more about this year’s Finalists! #EarthshotPrize #ProtectAndRestoreNature Atossa Soltani Uyunkar Domingo Peas - Extreme Hangout reposted this

SO much up this week (I’ve just arrived for #NYClimateWeek ) but I’ll go there once I’ve wrapped up last week… Highlight - the #GoodwoodHealthSummit hosted by the visionary Duchess of Richmond - i attended with the explicit intention to explore the link between #humanhealth and #planetaryhealth, an underutilised super power with transformational capabilities if only we would lean in to it, I certainly believe. To my utter delight the first session of the day featuring the superbly eloquent surgeon and author of ‘Dark Matter’ James Kinross who virtually opened with ‘we are facing an external AND internal ‘climate’ crisis’ - I nearly leapt to my feet to shout ‘Hurrah!!’ Indeed the biodiversity in our gut is feeling as glum as many other species we co-habit with yet foolishly ignore at best and drive into extinction at worst. Time to face the fact our antibiotic and anti microbial policies are woeful and that the true costs of these addictions are economic, social and environmental with ill health and ever diminishing productivity as our rewards. Professor Louise Kenny from #LiverpoolUniversity taught us ‘breast is best’ - we’ve been told it for years now but when every day you have to battle the hundreds of millions of $ thrown will-fully at marketing by ‘trusted’ household brands and entirely inadequate policy support, its a losing battle. The Professor passionately described our food structure as ‘fundamentally violent’ leading to short and long term physical, social and environmental harm. #DrChrisvanTulleken - author of one of my top reads this year, #UltraProcessedPeople, spoke of our synergistic pandemic - obesity, malnutrition and climate change. This link between human health and planetary health was given a big leg up at #COP28 but not so at #COP29 (it features but doesn’t have its own day). The two are indistinguishable - address one, we address the other, excellent news in my view as together we are stronger so, welcome all dear #healthcareworkers, we’d love you all to align your work with the #climatecrisis too as I hope the climate community will increasingly draw the links to the cost of ‘business as usual’ on human health. I for one will be keeping this conversation going in NY this week during my rounds of speaking and events all the while searching for brilliant voices for us to champion at the Extreme Hangout in Baku this coming November - It’s a busy time of year…
