October was a fantastic month, bringing fresh opportunities to connect with and support bookshops far and wide! We kicked off at the Frankfurter Buchmesse Book Fair, a brilliant opportunity to connect with both familiar and new faces. Our regional team also gathered with booksellers at the #Bristol Regional Event, which hosted a wonderful range of authors to chat about new reads. Sponsored by Pan Macmillan, it was a fantastic evening, thank you again to the authors and booksellers who joined us! 🎉 On Bookshop Day (12th October), we celebrated #ChooseBookshops, emphasising the incredible impact bookshops have on communities. Our team visited as many bookshops as possible, and we shipped out hundreds of packs nationally to support independent booksellers in association with BOOKS ARE MY BAG. October also welcomed three new bookshops: Sodbury Book Garden (with Hubble the Bookshop Dog as mascot) in Gloucestershire, Black Cat Books in Cornwall, and Chocolate Books in Somerset—fantastic new spaces for readers! 📚✨ Finally, we launched our 12 Weeks of Christmas promo, offering discounts of up to 50% on over 850 titles until the year’s end. An event buzzing with magic and excitement! ✨ MVB UK was thrilled to be one of the proud sponsors of the annual Gardners Trade Show – a must-attend event for booksellers and publishers alike! There were a record-breaking 370+ visitors and 65+ exhibitors at the September event, with publishers showcasing both beloved classics and hot-off-the-press titles 📚 Highlights included: ⭐ Ian Rankin sharing fascinating insights into his upcoming Rebus novel, Midnight and Blue ⭐ Louie Stowell revealing the magic behind her comic series of illustrated children's books about the Norse god Loki – before helping to celebrate indie bookshops ⭐ Rick Astley rolled in with a talk about his journey into writing and how fame has shaped his life ⭐ A special guest appearance from none other than The Gruffalo added an extra dose of magic to a fantastic event! Bring on #Bookshop Day! 📚 In association with Booksaremybag, we’re excited to be celebrating independent #BookshopDay on Saturday, 12th October. This week, we're sending out packs to our wonderful bookshops to help them get ready.#Booksellers
September was a fantastic month with wonderful opportunities to meet so many of you. We began the month by welcoming The Booksellers Association’s Managing Director, Meryl Halls, new President Fleur Sinclair, and Vice Presidents Debbie James and Mairi Oliver to Gardners for a grand tour. We celebrated the opening of Loubie's Little Bookshop & Wellness Retreat, now open in Scunthorpe, and our regional managers were out meeting booksellers. We even received a fantastic shot of Andrew Whelan enjoying Lindum's bookshop. And just like that, Trade Show weekend was upon us. We had a fantastic weekend, joined by a record number of booksellers and booklovers alike. We were also joined by Rick Astley, Ian Rankin, and Louie Stowell, who we all enjoyed listening to and meeting. We'd like to send a final thank you to everyone who attended and our Gardners staff who worked tirelessly at the event to make it such a success! After a month of hard work, we finished by grabbing a cup of tea and a slice of cake, while raising some money for our in-office Macmillan Coffee Morning! And that's a wrap on the Gardners Trade Show 2024! With a record-breaking 370+ visitors and 65+ exhibitors, we had an absolutely incredible time meeting so many of you! 🎉 For those who couldn’t join us, here’s a quick recap: we kicked things off with a fab talk from Nigel Wyman, who even snapped a selfie with the crowd! 📸 Then, Ian Rankin took the stage, sharing fascinating insights into his upcoming Rebus novel, Midnight and Blue.
