Yesterday I attended the North Seas Energy Cooperation’s (NSEC) ministerial session to discuss what strategies must be implemented to ensure that we face the biggest challenges in offshore infrastructure as a united front. I had an excellent discussion with UK Climate Minister Kerry McCarthy, and I particularly welcome the strong statement of the need for UK-EU energy co-operation in the North Sea by Irish Minister Eamon Ryan. The UK and EU have a unique opportunity to solidify our shared goals on energy security and maximise the potential of the North Sea. At National Grid we believe there are four essential elements to maximising the benefits of the North Sea cooperation: 🙌 Ensuring all neighbouring countries work together closely and effectively for our long-term system plans 💡 We keep efficiency in mind with UK-EU trading agreements and help to simplify complex offshore infrastructure, collaboratively 💰 Making sure that our plans for an interconnected North Sea remain attractive for investment, for the whole basin level. De-risking investments, speeding up the development of offshore hybrid assets and ultimately reducing costs to consumers 🔉 Having discussions on linking the UK and EU electricity systems as well as emissions trading systems now. We must address the potential impacts of the Cross Border Adjustment Mechanism on our net zero and offshore grid objectives as soon as possible. We must keep moving forward and shaping the energy transition together. Today was another step in the right direction, and I look forward to continued progress.#UKEU #interconnected #OHA
