We are proud to run the ISBN and SAN Agencies for UK & Ireland as well as providing search and discovery services for booksellers and libraries. Our Research services provide retail sales analysis for both print and e-books alongside research from our Books and Consumer Survey. For publishers, we offer a range of services from assigning an ISBN to your book to adding your metadata to our database and promotional tools to help market your book. We employ around 100 staff and have offices in the UK, Australia, Brazil, India, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa and Spain. Nielsen Book is wholly owned by NielsenIQ. 📣 We are delighted to announce that the Global Book Market update from GfK Entertainment and Nielsen BookData for the first eight months of the year is now available. The report highlights a challenging environment for the global book market in 2024, with only 6 out of the 16 surveyed countries reporting growth. Some key insights from the report include: 🔹 While fiction revenues rose in 14 of the 16 regions surveyed, these gains were offset by declining sales in non-fiction across many areas. 🔹 India (+18.3%), Mexico (+16.1%), and Spain (+12.3%) all experienced particularly strong revenue growth this year. 🔹 The fastest-growing fiction categories are crime novels/thrillers, science fiction/fantasy, and romance novels, driven by the influence of BookTok. 🔹 Although average prices continue to rise in 12 of the surveyed territories, such as in the UK by 1.9% to £9.02, 12 regions are seeing lower price increases or even falling prices compared to the previous year. ✨The Bookseller Children’s conference never fails to inspire. Children’s books are essential to our industry and society at large, and therefore inspiring new readers is vital for the future. Key discussions included an open letter urging the government to prioritize children’s reading for pleasure, the importance of libraries, and the concerning rollback of diverse storytelling. Our senior research analyst, Philip Stone, presented data on the 2024 Children’s Book market, highlighting growth in children’s fiction, driven by comic strip fiction and graphic novels, which offset declines in the pre-school and picture book market.
