About us
Since 1991, when we were a wholesaler with a team of just 15, we’ve been focused on getting better every day. By putting pets before profit, working as a team and taking pride in everything we do, we’ve grown into a 451 store network with more than 8,913 colleagues working in our Stores, Grooming Salons, Distribution Centres and Support Office. We are the UK’s leading pet specialist, providing pet owners with all their product needs, as well as our Vets for Pets practices and Grooming salons. We support our colleagues to work with pride and passion, to bring honesty and integrity to work every day, and to do it all with a sense of fun and fearlessness. We never shy away from having the important conversations and doing what we say we’ll do. Our values and behaviours are practiced daily across the business and are what really makes us an enjoyable, exciting place to work. We're always striving to develop and reward our colleagues with an extensive in-house series of training programmes, wellbeing initiatives and a comprehensive benefits package. In 2018 we were delighted to be voted top 5 in the Great Place to Work UK’s Large category. Our colleagues are central to the success of the business and are fully trained in pet care and dedicated to animal welfare. Pets are central to everything that we do and 93% of colleagues have their own pets too! - Earlier this month, Richard Dening-Smitherman, our new Managing Director of the Vet Group (Vets for Pets), joined the Pets Executive Team to lead the Vet business, supported by the Vet Leadership Team and the Practice Owner Joint Venture Council. Richard has enjoyed getting to know the business and immersing himself in our unique practice ownership model, as well as meeting some of our esteemed practice owners. We caught up with Richard to find out what he’s most looking forward to. #PetsatHome
- Today is International Day of Charity, which is the perfect day to announce the results of the Pets Foundation and Blue Cross UK Summer Appeal! We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support we have received and would like to say a massive thank you to our colleagues, customers, and suppliers who backed this year’s summer fundraiser. Thanks to everyone's kindness and hard work, we are delighted to announce that we have donated all 60,000 pet food parcels, which can feed 79,200 pets for a day, and raised a staggering £475,300. Your donations have made a real difference to pets and people in communities facing challenging times nationwide. It has also prevented many people from having to choose between feeding themselves or their pets or surrendering their pets for rehoming. The Pets Foundation is committed to making a lasting impact, and the funds raised and parcels donated mean that this project can continue to help keep pets and people together in local communities.#PetsatHome

Prior to this, Richard was Chief Executive Officer at Nando's in the Middle East - leading the expansion of franchise opportunities across the region. He has also held leadership roles at Waitrose and at Intraject, a healthcare technology company, where he led the production development of a new automated needle-free technology. Commenting on Richard’s appointment, Chief Executive Officer, Lyssa McGowan, said: “Richard has fantastic experience delivering success with some of the biggest brands in franchise based organisations, which will be invaluable in this new role to protect and nurture our unique joint venture model and to continue the development of our vet business.” Richard said: "I am truly delighted to be joining the Pets family as Managing Director of the Vet Group. Pets is an amazing business with a passionate and caring team that is truly creating a better world for pets and the people who love them. As someone who also loves their pets, I have personally experienced this. Our Vet Group is a world class clinical team, and I am excited to meet everyone and support our business success as we continue building the world’s best pet care platform together.”#PetsatHome - As much as we would love to have Ale and Hugh move in, we've already had some serious snoring complaints from the Guinea Pigs... 💤 But while they pack their bags, Grub Club Pets is here to stay and is already creating quite the buzz. Packed full of bug fuelled protein and prebiotics, these crunchy, munchy treats are not only paw-some for any pooches but have a positive impact on the environment. 💚
WE'RE MAKING OURSELVES AT HOME Ale and Hugh have been busy packing up the bug suits, purchasing plants and framing photos because... Grub Club are moving into Pets at Home - permanently. Did our bosses take this a little too literally? Yes. Head to the dog treat aisle in EVERY Pets at Home store, nationwide, to catch a glimpse of the Grub. Huge thanks to Rowan Beattie, Matilda Wheatley, Kate Robinson & the rest of the team at Pets at Home for all the support in getting this launch over the line. Not just a huge win for Grub Club, but a huge win for BUGS! -

On Saturday, our LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies marched at Manchester Pride in support of a world where people are free to live and love without fear or discrimination. Our Director of Centre of Expertise, Andrea Ward, said: "We're so proud to have marched in solidarity with Manchester Pride this year to support their ongoing effort to create a world where people can be free to be themselves." Our commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion goes beyond Pride. We are dedicated to actively creating environments where everyone is empowered, and ensuring that our differences are truly understood, respected and celebrated so that we can all be our best selves. We believe that true inclusion, allyship, and advocacy must be continuous efforts and not just limited to moments of celebration. We've loved attending Pride this year and are already excited for the next one, as well as engaging in future initiatives that drive greater inclusion. Equity, diversity and inclusion is a journey, and we look forward to continuing this journey with you- +2

- Our first full week of the Pets Foundation Summer Appeal has come to an end, and we’re excited to announce that so far we’ve sold 31,840 food bags, and raised a staggering £209,901. The Pets Foundation has partnered with the Blue Cross UK since 2022, helping keep pets and families together through our Pet Food Bank project. We recently reached a significant milestone in the initiative, as we celebrated feeding three million pets for a day. During the Summer Appeal, which runs to 27th August, Pets at Home customers can pick up a pre-packed pet food bag in store to go directly to their local food bank, or donate at the till. Donations of pet food items can also be made at Blue Cross rehoming centres, animal hospitals, and in over 450 of our stores across the UK.#PetsatHome

We're proud of our continuation of sponsorship for the 'Animal Partnership' category at the Soldiering On Awards. This prestigious award honours the companionship provided by animals, and the achievements of individuals or organisations engaged with animals that support and empower members of the Armed Forces Community. Our Chief People and Legal Officer, Lucy Williams, recently attended the finalist reception at the House of Lords, along with other partners, supporters, and four-legged friends. Lucy said: “I'm so proud that we're able to continue supporting these fantastic awards. It was brilliant to meet this year's finalists and hear first hand about the work they do to support veterans and ex-service dogs.” They were also able to congratulate this years finalists, Hero Paws, Poseidon, and Service Dogs UK. This summer around 60,000 children will be learning about the importance of animal welfare through our free fun and engaging My Pet Pals workshops, which form part of our ongoing commitment to helping educate children about responsible pet ownership. The new workshops focus on how to look after Syrian Hamsters, explaining everything you need to consider when choosing a hamster as a pet, and are run by our incredible pet care colleagues who use their passion and expertise to inspire the next generation of pet lovers. Our Veterinary Service Director, Dr Samantha Butler-Davies, said: “The My Pet Pals programme is a great way for children to learn all about the needs of different pets. These workshops are completely free of charge, enabling kids all over the UK to learn more about looking after pets, thanks to our hugely knowledgeable in-store pet care advisors.” The workshops will be running in the majority of our stores at 2pm daily until Sunday 1st September. Parents around the UK have been excited to share their experiences of the sessions across social media, find your nearest workshop and book your space now: https://lnkd.in/eZDkcr-Z #PetsatHome
