A real privilege 🙏🏻
It has been a privilege to accompany BBC presenter, author and campaigner, Sally Magnusson, on her journey to understand more about the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease. We were honoured to be included in her upcoming documentary, “Alzheimer’s, a Cure, and Me”, which will be broadcast on BBC Scotland on Sunday 13th October at 9pm. It is a moving exploration of the personal and familial ramifications of this disease and Sally’s determination to be “part of the solution, part of the hopeful future” is an inspiration to us all. Had a great time yesterday joining the Scottish Brain Sciences team for their lunchtime speaker series We talked about the duality of digital health – how digital health technologies can both address *AND* introduce problems Some highlights were... 👩🏫 Considering MND as a worked example of digital health opportunities 🏡 Opportunities for remote assessments in a participants’ home environment ⛔ Understanding how digital exclusion can affect research engagement Thanks to Miles Welstead for the invitation & to the attendees for some really thought-provoking questions about maintaining the personal touch in research, and prioritising user acceptance of technologies. - Scottish Brain Sciences reposted this
Today Professor Craig Ritchie, Founder and CEO of Scottish Brain Sciences joined ONE Life Sciences Network for an inspiring session where Craig provided valuable insights into the rapid growth of his life sciences startup. 🚀 Founded in 2022, Scottish Brain Sciences (SBS) is accelerating the development and implementation of new diagnostics and therapeutics for Alzheimer's disease. ONE BioHub is the home for SBS' groundbreaking clinical trials centre, where their cohort study IONA is recruiting ten times faster than any other comparable study - creating one of the world’s largest brain health research communities. Key takeaways are highlighted below: 👉Quadruple helix: Patients are your investors - listen and adapt to their needs 👉 Retention over recruitment: Retaining patients is more important than recruiting patients 👉 Collaborate with commercial partners: Understand and empathise with their pain points, and deliver innovative solutions to meet their needs 👉Create the place where science thrives: Build an environment that allows scientific ideas to develop and reach the market faster 👉 Incubate in Scotland: Scotland's smaller population is the perfect incubator to create a strong proof-of-concept before expanding globallyDeborah O'Neil, Lorna Duguid, Imke Mulder #LifeSciences #ONEBioHub #neurodegenerative #innovation -

We had an amazing time at the #AlzheimerScotland Conference last week! 🙌 👏 It was a privilege to be there to meet so many lovely people and hear so many inspiring stories from across the UK. A huge THANK YOU to all those willing research participants who came up to our table to volunteer for our programme! The conference was also a great opportunity to learn about the steps being taken to protect personhood after a diagnosis, the evolutions and innovations being made in our practice, and what the future of long term care and dementia research looks like in Scotland. We are very proud to be part of this community, and are so encouraged to see the progress and difference being made in Alzheimer's research and treatment. CONGRATULATIONS to Alzheimer Scotland on yet another fantastic conference... we're already excited about next year! 🤩 🙌 👏 🧠 🔬 #AlzheimersResearch #alzheimers #dementia #BrainHealth #research- +7

With the first generation of disease modifying therapies being recently approved across the world, the door is now wide open for the development of the next generations of medicines to impact a range of pathologies implicated in neurodegenerative disease. In doing so we will achieve even greater impact with more precise treatments for the earliest stages of disease. I am delighted that Scottish Brain Sciences recently joined forces with the Neuroscience Discovery teams led by Fiona Thomson at MSD in the UK to explore a series of novel mechanisms for neurodegeneration by accessing the data and samples collected in our #IONACohort. Using our own laboratory facilities, which are led by Dr Alison Green, that have been established on the University of St Andrews incubator site at #EdenCampus, we look forward to fulfilling the founding purpose of Scottish Brain Sciences. This is to accelerate the development and implementation of new methods for early detection and high impact intervention across a range of neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease. -

This year, we proudly opened the SBS Biomarker Lab at Eden Campus, in collaboration with the University of St Andrews. This new facility will play a critical role in accelerating diagnostics and treatments for Alzheimer's disease. To mark World Alzheimer's Day 2024, the University illuminated the iconic St Salvator's Quad in purple, symbolising our commitment to advancing brain health. A heartfelt thank you to the amazing team at St Andrews for your support and dedication to our mission. Together, we’re driving progress toward a brighter future for those living with Alzheimer’s.#AlzheimersResearch #WorldAlzheimersDay #BrainHealth #Biomarkers #Neuroscience University of St Andrews #standrewsinnovation
