About us
Street Child works to see all children kept safe, in school and learning—especially in low resource environments and emergencies. Our vision is a world where it is seen as unacceptable for a child not to be in education. But today there are 250 million school-aged children around the world who are not in education. Millions more children are in school but failing to learn. Street Child believes that education is a fundamental right and achieving universal basic education is the single greatest step toward eliminating the inequality gap and global poverty. We go to places where others don’t go, where we seek out remote, hard-to-reach, fragile and disaster-affected states that are forgotten about and ignored. It’s in these contexts where our pragmatic and cost-effective approaches can make a real difference to a child’s future. Street Child works to remove the complex social, economic and structural barriers to education wherever they lie. We are there to close the gaps through which the most marginalised children can slip. Our work includes not only building schools and training teachers but also protecting children and livelihood support for caregivers to ensure they can afford the cost of their children’s education. Wherever we work, we partner with local organisations and communities which allows us to be responsive and nimble. We use simple, low-cost and replicable solutions that allow us to create maximum impact for the most children. We started out supporting 100 street-connected children in Sierra Leone in 2008. Since then, we have impacted one million marginalised children in over 25 countries around the world.

- This morning at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Street Child, in collaboration with Liberty Global, hosted a breakfast discussion on the private sector's expanding responsibility in addressing the global education crisis and the transformative role of technology. A special thank you to Mike Fries, CEO of Liberty Global, for hosting this event with us. We were delighted to be joined by an incredible panel of speakers, including Tom Dannatt (Street Child), Valérie Urbain (Euroclear), Jeff Dodds (Formula E), Kathleen O'Reilly (Accenture), and Tyler Spalding (PayPal). The discussion explored how strategic partnerships and increased private sector investment can ensure all children access education. It also highlighted the importance of embedding charitable activities within organisational culture and the compelling business case for integrating charitable giving into company structures. - As the conflict in Ukraine persists, over 3,000 schools have been damaged or destroyed, leaving nearly half of school-aged children—1.9 million—dependent on partial or fully remote education. In response to this urgent need, Infosys Europe has partnered with Street Child to establish seven Digital Learning Centres in eastern Ukraine, close to the frontlines. These centres provide children with a safe space to gather, connect, and learn in person, ensuring that education continues even in times of crisis. We are excited to be hosted by Infosys at the World Economic Forum to discuss this impactful initiative. If you’re in Davos, we invite you to join our discussion on the importance of ensuring access to education in times of emergency and cross-sector collaboration to drive meaningful change. The panel will feature Tom Dannatt, CEO and Founder of Street Child, Inderpreet Sawhney, Chief Legal Officer and Chief Compliance Officer at Infosys, Dianah Nelson, Chief of Education at Education Cannot Wait (ECW) and will be moderated by Kenneth Cukier from The Economist. Date: Tuesday 21st January 2025 Time: 18:00 CET Location: Infosys Lounge, Davos Please email wef@infosys.com to confirm your attendance.

Most recently, we've been able to: 🚿 Distribute 310 emergency survival kits (shelter, WASH, hygiene kits, and kitchen essentials) to families, supporting over 1,200 children. ⚽ Support over 2,100 children through child-friendly spaces, where recreational activities and sports are helping them heal and regain a sense of normalcy. 🚽 Provide 310 young women and girls with dignity kits, including culturally-appropriate menstrual products, restoring comfort and confidence. - The Mai-Ndombe crisis in DRC began as a conflict between the Teke and Yaka tribes but has escalated, affecting four provinces and displacing thousands of families. Most of those fleeing are women and children, as many men have been killed or are missing. It has quickly become a forgotten crisis. In a rural area deeply impacted by the conflict, Street Child is providing education, protection, clean water, and livelihoods support to children and their families in need. Thank you for making this life-changing response possible 🧡 Learn more about Street Child : https://lnkd.in/dP778FZY
