We’re marking 15 years of our STAR (Special Terms for Authors and Researchers) initiative, which was started to help individual researchers who are not currently affiliated with an institution or research organization by providing access to the latest research. Unique to Taylor & Francis, STAR supports researchers in over 100 countries with their research and writing through free access to Taylor & Francis journals. The initiative has benefited a broad range of researchers lacking access to the resources of a university or research institution, including independent researchers, retired academics, and professionals working for NGOs. STAR enables authors in these regions who are writing papers to update references and enrich their findings, which may help achieve higher levels of article acceptance and greater contribution to the global knowledge community. This week we’re shining a spotlight on a new journal called “EMI: Animal & Environment.” New data says that 58% of infectious diseases have been at some point aggravated by climatic hazards. Understanding how animal-based infections interact with our environment is more pressing than ever before. “EMI: Animal & Environment” expands the horizons of emerging infectious disease research to report novel findings on the growing importance of animal-based infections and environmental impact on both human and animal pathogens. Subtopics of the journal's focus will include: rapid communication of outbreaks and new diseases in animals, environmental source and relationship to climatic changes or human activity, and pandemic preparedness, control, and prevention. This year we are pleased to publish a new journal called “Health Interactions” which will focus on health from a wide range of disciplines, including economics, public health, policy, psychology, and sociology.
