About us

Every day, we help millions of people to make journeys across London: By Tube, bus, tram, car, bike – and more. People don’t associate us with journeys by river, on foot or via the air, but we help with that, too. Getting people to where they need to go has been our business for over 100 years, and it shows. We’re leaders in our field, and no other city’s transport system is quite as recognisable: Red buses, black taxis, Tube trains and roundels have become icons in their own right. Our main job is to keep the city moving, working and growing but to do that, we have to listen. Constant improvements across the network are fuelled by feedback and comments from customers, as well as work within communities, representative groups, businesses and other London transport stakeholders. But our progress also depends on technology and data. With the future at our fingertips, we’ve already used it to revolutionise travel payments (think Oyster and contactless payment cards), and improved travel information. Tech and data is essential, not just to our future, but to others’: third parties use our data to power apps and services vital to customer journeys. So what’s next? As well as continuing to deliver Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan’s strategy and commitments on transport, our programme of capital investments is still one of the largest. We launched the Elizabeth line, we’re modernising services and stations and making travel safer for all.

The first of its kind, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan's Big Community Transport Tour has officially launched in London, starting with the London Borough of Redbridge. Deputy Mayor for Transport Seb Dance and Walking and Cycling Commissioner Will Norman will visit all 32 London boroughs to engage communities on how transport can better serve them. The tour kicked off with a ‘walk and talk’ discussion on the Superloop and Elizabeth line’s positive impacts, and a roundtable with local stakeholders.

We're excited to welcome three incredible individuals to TfL's Independent Disability Advisory Group (IDAG): Cornel Hrisca-Munn, Dr Kush Kanodia, and Shravani Sharma. 👏 Cornel brings vast experience in accessibility and inclusive recruitment, having led initiatives across local authorities and major corporations. Dr. Kush is a renowned disability rights champion and social entrepreneur, known for creating systemic change, including transforming NHS hospital parking for disabled people. Shravani, a transport engineer, is leading the way in making new mobility solutions, like autonomous vehicles, more inclusive. We're award winners! 🏆 At the 2024 European Transport Conference, we received the prestigious award for ‘The Most Innovative Use of Data’ for groundbreaking research led by Joseph Fenwick.Joseph Fenwick and the Public Transport Service Planning team have been exploring creative new ways to understand how customers interact with our transport network. By experimenting with innovative methods, the team has uncovered deeper insights into why customers travel and the types of journeys they make at different times of the day, including late night trips. This research improves accuracy and inclusivity, enabling us to categorise a wider variety of journeys. By capturing the varying experiences of different customers across various trip types and times, we can begin planning services that better reflect the diverse needs of all our customers. The Silvertown Tunnel is set to open on 7 April 2025! 🎉 It will serve new bus routes, including the Superloop SL4 from Canary Wharf to Grove Park. These buses will be free for at least the first year from tunnel opening, increasing river crossings in the area from 6 to 21 zero-emission buses per hour at peak times.
