- Amy is a married mother of two with severe hearing loss diagnosed at age 3 years and 9 months. She says: 'Hearing aids transformed my life, helping me become more social. I attended a mainstream nursery, Primary school being the only deaf student at the school till I then attended a secondary school with a deaf unit, still being the only deaf student in my year, it was a time that taught me resilience but was a very challenging time. After working as a successful Holistic Beauty Therapist, I became a full-time mom, facing challenges in communication due to noisy environments. This experience prompted me to advocate for my needs and raise awareness about hearing loss. The COVID-19 pandemic and the necessity of wearing masks inspired me to initiate a campaign called “Clarity in Communication.” This campaign aimed to raise awareness about the challenges posed by mask-wearing, particularly the loss of lip reading, which is a vital coping mechanism for the deaf community. I highlighted the exemption card issued by the government. I was successful with television appearances on BBC breakfast and London live, press in hello magazine and many others including local press. I launched a Community Interest Company called "Living with Hearing Loss" to offer resources and support for the deaf community, while also working to increase awareness of deafness by sharing personal stories and creating a platform for those experiencing hearing loss. With the Clarity in Communication Campaign no longer necessary, we decided to create something uplifting for the young deaf community after a challenging period. This is when Pinknoise was born! An exciting collaboration between myself and two talented jewellery designers: Amelia, the founder and creator of Bijoux de Mimi, and Jenni, the designer and founder of Deafmetal, a pioneer in hearing aid jewellery. These two incredible women both possess remarkable creativity! I thoroughly enjoyed collaborating on a brief campaign aimed at raising awareness and sparking conversations within the hearing community, while also bringing a youthful perspective. This initiative was a heartfelt tribute to empowering my vibrant young deaf community with stunning, colourful jewellery to accessorise your hearing aids! A powerful campaign designed to eradicate the stigma associated with hearing aids, we created lots of positive conversations within a hearing brand and brought colour into the hearing aid jewellery world. I have recently established two support groups: one for mothers experiencing hearing loss and another for the general hearing loss community. Additionally, I am introducing new services that include talks and consultancy aimed at making your events more inclusive, along with personalised deaf awareness sessions. We are also expanding our directory and strengthening our partnerships with deaf charities and the deaf community, as we move towards some truly exciting goals and projects.'
