Awards season is heating up and so are the Baftas, Britain’s biggest celebration of cinema and one of the best indicators of which films are likely to win big at the Academy Awards stateside.

The 2024 Bafta Film Awards will take place on Sunday, 18 February. Oppenheimer, Poor Things and The Zone of Interest, are among the films vying for Bafta gold — but who and what will win?

Read on for all the key details you’ll need ahead of the 2024 Bafta Film Awards ceremony, including where and how to watch, who’ll be hosting, who’s been nominated and more.

The 2024 Bafta Film Awards will take place Sunday, 18 February at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in Central London.

The ceremony will be broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer from 7pm until 9pm GMT. If you’re outside of the UK, you can catch up via the streaming service Britbox International.

Who is hosting the Baftas 2024?

Fresh from the TARDIS, former Doctor Who David Tennant has been lined up to host his year’s Baftas ceremony, taking over from Saltburn star Richard E. Grant who fronted the show in 2023.

“I am delighted to have been asked to host the EE Bafta Film Awards and help celebrate the very best of this year’s films and the many brilliant people who bring them to life,” Tennant said in a statement.

The Harry Potter and Good Omens star joins a starry roster of previous Baftas hosts that includes Rebel Wilson, Stephen Fry and Richard Ayoade.

When it comes to presenters, viewers can expect to see the likes of Hugh Grant, Cate Blanchett, Bryce Dallas Howard, David Beckham, Keegan-Michael Key, Gillian Anderson, Dua Lipa, Idris Elba, Andrew Scott and more dish out wards.

Before the event kicks off, hosts Clara Amfo and Alex Zane will be bringing audiences all of the action from the red carpet across YouTube, X and Facebook, with Zainab Jiwa providing coverage on TikTok.

Who is nominated for the Baftas 2024?

Oppenheimer received 13 BAFTA nominations. (Universal)

The official nominations for the 2023 BAFTAs were made public on 18 January with Oppenheimer and Poor Things leading the way with 13 and 11 nods respectively.

The Best Director award will see Oppenheimer’s Christopher Nolan go up against the likes of Bradley Cooper for Maestro and Jonathan Glazer for The Zone of Interest.

Leading Actress will have Emma Stone’s Poor Things performance compete against Margot Robbie’s Barbie and Carey Mulligan's turn as Felicia Montealegre in Maestro, while Leading Actor has Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer face off against Teo Yoo in Past Lives, Bradley Cooper in Maestro and Paul Giamatti in The Holdovers, among others.

Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon and Glazer’s The Zone of Interest each earned nine nominations, including a Best Actor nod for Robert DeNiro in the former. They’re followed by Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers and Maestro which each received seven nominations in total.

Andrew Haigh’s relationship drama All of Us Strangers received six nominations, while Barbie and Saltburn were highlighted in five different categories.

Ridley Scott’s war epic Napoleon received just four nominations in Outstanding British Film, Costume Design, Make-Up and Hair, and Visual Effects.

The Animated Film category nominated The Boy and the Heron, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, Elemental and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-verse, with the Documentary slot highlighting 20 Days in Mariupol, American Symphony, Beyond Utopia, Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie and Wham!.

Who is nominated for the Bafta Rising Star Award 2024?

The five nominees for the EE Bafta Rising Star award, announced on 10 January, are:

Previous winners of the public-voted award include Emma Mackey, Lashana Lynch, Bukky Bakray, Micheal Ward, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, John Boyega, and Tom Hardy.

Who is performing at the Baftas 2024?

Sophie Ellis-Bextor will take to the stage to perform her hit song Murder On The Dancefloor following its resurgent success in this year's controversial hit Saltburn.

Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham will also deliver a musical performance during the show, although exact details as to what this might entail are still under wraps.

Actor, writer and director Samathan Morton is the recipient of this year’s BAFTA Fellowship Award, a prize celebrating outstanding and exceptional contributions to film, games or television.

Morton’s work spans projects as varied as Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report, Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, New York and Darren Aronofsky's The Whale.

The award-winning Sandy Powell took home the Bafta Fellowship Award in 2022, making history as the first costume designer to ever bag the award.

Her work can be seen in projects like Shakespeare in Love, The Favourite and Mary Poppins Returns. Who will take home the prize in 2024? Only time will tell.

Elsewhere, we know that film curator and writer June Givanni will receive a special BAFTA award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema for her extensive work programming and shining a light on to African and African diaspora cinema.

In particular, Givanni is known for being the founder of The June Givanni PanAfrican Archive which is a volunteer-led programme dedicated to preserving and restoring PanAfrican cinema and culture which has been running for over 40 years.

The 2024 Bafta Film Awards will take place on Sunday, 18 February from 7pm on BBC and BBC iPlayer.
