There's more to the A Quiet Place: Day One story.

PEOPLE has an exclusive deleted scene from the sci-fi thriller, directed by Michael Sarnoski and starring Lupita Nyong'o and Joseph Quinn.

In the scene, Nyong'o's Samira asks Quinn's Eric what he was doing when the alien disaster landed in New York City and they later met in the aftermath. He then shares more of his emotional backstory about leaving home.

Nyong'o, 41, previously told PEOPLE about meeting and working with Stranger Things alum Quinn, 30.

"We didn't have time to bond before we made this film," she recalled, "but I remember meeting him at the camera test and we said hello, introduced ourselves. I asked him, 'How are you doing?' He said, 'I'm a little nervous.' I said, 'I'm a little nervous too.' That was the first sign that we were open to being vulnerable together."
