Keyshawn Davis wins dominant unanimous decision in rematch against Nahir Albright (original) (raw)
Keyshawn Davis dominated Nahir Albright in their rematch at super lightweight Saturday at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. Yet Davis still didn’t do what he set out to do — knock out his old rival.
It was a rivalry steeped in bad blood, featuring a previous no-contest, a backstage brawl years later, and no shortage of heat in the promotion this time around. Davis (15-0, 10 KOs) pledged repeatedly to finish Albright (17-3-1, 7 KOs) and show how far he’s come since their first bout in 2023.
Davis did show a stellar skill set. He has fast hands and boxes with poise and precision, but he can also lose his head in the middle of a fight, as he did in Round 7 when he lifted Albright off the canvas and slammed him to the ground in a bizarre scene, risking disqualification if his opponent had gotten hurt. Davis was deducted two points for good measure.
It did little to affect the outcome, which was a foregone conclusion from early in the fight. Davis established he was a level above Albright, whom he almost toppled in the 12th and final round, buckling his legs after unrelenting pressure.
But Albright survived.
“He's a crafty fighter,” Davis said of Albright. “I tried to go for the knockout. We all see he was hurt. I got the decision, that's all that matters.”
Davis then called for fights against Oscar Duarte and Devin Haney.
Elsewhere on the card, Brian Norman’s comeback overshadowed the Davis main event, as “The Assassin” reintroduced himself following his loss to Haney by battering Josh Wagner into an effective submission in the second round.
Norman (29-1, 23 KOs) looked incredible, boxing with speed and power, and bludgeoning Wagner (19-3, 10 KOs) to the canvas in the first and second rounds. It was a statement performance from Norman on a night that needed one.
Earlier, Davis’ two brothers also picked up wins. Older brother Kelvin Davis beat Peter Dobson, while younger brother Keon Davis cruised past Edwine Humaine Jr.

“He's a crafty fighter,” Davis said of Albright.
“I tried to go for the knockout, we all see he was hurt. I got the decision, that's all that matters.”
On the slam, he said: “I flipped him over” because he gets “mad” sometimes.

Davis let his hands fly in the 12th and final round, taking heed of his corner's request for a 10-shot combination! Davis popped Albright's head back with a short-range right hand. Albright turned him but then absorbed punishment. Albright barely threw anything for more than a minute and served little more than target practice for Keyshawn who beat him like a heavy bag.

Albright had to change gears in the championship rounds if he was to salvage anything from the fight but Davis fought fire with fire, boxed with aggression and put Albright on wobbly legs through the pummeling.

A more thorough performance from Keyshawn who has generally outclassed Albright, who has resorted to holding. Aside from the fifth, and the body-slam, Davis has been in cruise control.

This fight had so much promise. It had backstory and bad blood. Davis wanted to secure a knockout as he felt he had a point to prove. And he started first. But then they started wrestling each other, dragging each other to the floor, and it just got ugly and odd.
Round 9: 87-83 — Davis

Capable of beating Albright with his speed, Albright still lands cute left hooks and other single shots while stepping inside. The fight, though, is mostly Davis’s to lose rather than Albright’s to win. As Keyshawn’s coach said, any more nonsense and the referee doesn’t need an excuse to disqualify.
Round 8: 77-74 — Davis

Keyshawn Davis has the most peculiar mental game.
He can box with poise and precision but then in round seven he effectively suplexes Albright. What a foul!
The referee takes two points from Davis, rather than just one. Wow!
Round 7: 67-65 — Davis

As Albright continues to hold up to Davis’s onslaught it becomes increasingly apparent that Keyshawn, perhaps, is not going to get out to tonight what he most wanted to, heading in — the knockout.

Albright catches Davis in the fifth! What a punch! That was a big right hand and the shot of the night so far from either man! Is Davis buzzed or has he recovered? Albright needs to find the target again to find out. Davis finishes the round taunting Albright.

Davis lands left hooks in quick success in the fourth round, amid what can really only be called wanton clinching.

Davis protects the back of his head from possible rabbit punching when Albright had him turned and, as soon as boxing resumed, popped an extended right hand in his mouth. Crafty reversal of positioning and vulnerability from Davis. He’s so sharp.
Round 3: 30-27 — Davis

Davis's footwork, which he used to throw absurdly quick combos from the pocket, before retreating out of range, was on point throughout the second round. Considering all the other things he does really well, like body shots, flurries, that his footwork stands out just as much is testament to his overall skillset.
Round 2: 20-18 — Davis

Keyshawn Davis is aggressive EARLY in the opening round with a fast jab and faster combinations. The more gifted Davis brother, Keyshawn landed a right hand, showed fast hands, and beat Albright to the punch again and again. 1-0.

Albright as a Roman gladiator, and Davis, after an orchestral opener, just stared the ring down.
He wants this KO. But Albright, considering his outfit, is ready for war.

"It was cool but I only had two rounds. Dude gon' quit on me. Let me get right back into it,” Norman told Chris Mannix, on DAZN, post-fight.
"He said he was going to press hard in there, I was expecting something serious. I came out trying to take his head off. Chill, get on my jab. Still got the job done."

I was thinking I was just baiting the boxing Gods to give us another spoiling decision but bang, Norman comes in and is like, nah, not today prizefighting Jesus. He completely clobbered Wagner all over this ring tonight! ANOTHER lightning-quick knockout for Norman

Norman laying all kinds of leather on Wagner, who is wobbly, weak legs, and now slumped into the corner, looking beaten already! This fight is DONE! But the referee allows it to continue. What the heck?! Wagner is down AGAIN! And he's looking up at the ref, like, why? Wagner gets up. Ref calls time. Just wave the fight off! Now a doctor is strapping on gloves to inspect Wagner’s injured shoulder.
And finally it’s over! Norman by KO!
