These are the LIV golfers who qualified for the 2026 U.S. Open (original) (raw)

LIV Golf will have some representation in the U.S. Open once again. This year at Shinnecock Hills, there will be 13 LIV golfers on the tee sheet. They each got there through a variety of ways, some via a major championship victory, others through final qualifying.

There are three past U.S. Open champs playing this year, but one of them is in his final year of exemption from winning the Open 10 years ago.

Bryson DeChambeau is back thanks to his 10-year exemption for winning the 2020 and 2024 U.S. Opens. He also qualifies by being inside the top 60 of the OWGR.

Jon Rahm is in thanks to four different criteria, including his 2021 U.S. Open win.

Dustin Johnson is also a past U.S. Open champ, having won it in 2016. This year will mark his 10th and final year of exemption from that victory.

The 2022 Open Championship winner, Cameron Smith, is in the 2026 Open due to the five-year exemption earned by winning one of the other three majors. He's in the second-to-last year of that exemption.

Tyrrell Hatton and Carlos Ortiz are in because they tied for fourth in the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont. The USGA takes the top 10 and ties from the previous year's Open.

Joaquin Niemann and Lucas Herbert made it after being among the top three players in the 2025 LIV Golf Individual Standings. In 2025, the USGA became the first major golf association to create a direct path to a major championship for LIV golfers. In 2026, Niemann and Herbert are the beneficiaries.

Laurie Canter is in because he was one of the top two players from the 2025 DP World Tour's Race to Dubai.

David Puig is in because he was ranked high enough in the OWGR as of the May 18 update of the ranking.

Peter Uihlein, Graeme McDowell and Caleb Surratt advanced through final qualifying in Dallas on May 18. For McDowell, it's his first major since 2020.

There were no LIV golfers entered in the June 8 final qualifiers, most likely because LIV played an event that concluded in Spain the day before.

There were 14 LIV golfers in the U.S. Open in 2025, with six of them making the cut.
