Issue in Printing Mushaf Quran: Dispute in Science of `Adad and It's Application in Printing Mush... more Issue in Printing Mushaf Quran: Dispute in Science of `Adad and It's Application in Printing Mushaf Quran The science of `adad constitutes an integral part of Quranic-affiliated knowledge. Its main discussion is about the beginning and ending of the verse of the Quran as well as distinction numbering of the verses. There are seven famous opinions in `adad, namely; Madani Awwal, Madani Akhir, Makki, Kufi, Basri, Shami and Himshi. The difference of opinions in the determination of Quranic verses does not only affect the calculation of the total number of verses in the Qur'an, but also contribute to the differences in the nature of mushaf (printed Quran). This is because the scholars have variant views on determining the madhdhab (opinion) of 'adad relied upon by some qiraat mutawatirah and its riwayah. Thus, this study explores and gathers the views of the scholars in determining the madhdhab (opinion) for respective qiraat mutawatirah, and identify their justifications. This study will then examine the effect of the dispute on mushaf Quran. To achieve the aforementioned objectives, content analysis method was adopted to bring together the views of scholars in determining opinions for each qiraat mutawatirah, and to analyze descriptively the narrations of all opinions to explain the cause of the disagreement among the scholars. In order to know the impact of the differences in `adad on mushaf Quran, induction methods was used on the mushaf Quran which has been printed in several countries with distinctive qiraat mutawatirah. This study finds that the sanad (chain of transmitter) in narrating `adad forms is the contributing factor in dissenting scholars in determining credible opinion for each qiraat mutawatirah. In regards to the printing of mushaf, most of the printed mushafs are aligned with the opinion of scholars in determining the number of the verses, whereas only a few of mushaf which do not comply with such opinion.

Online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic has paved the way for a new shift in Islamic studies... more Online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic has paved the way for a new shift in Islamic studies towards the implementation of digital alternative assessments. Although the shift was initially characterized by urgency due to the Movement Control Order (MCO), the evolvement has increasingly gained acceptance and proven to be effective in achieving learning outcomes. This study aims to identify the perceptions of Islamic studies students on the implementation of the digital alternative assessments they undertook in terms of practice, form, and effectiveness. A survey questionnaire was carried out involving 461 students. Data were measured using a five-point Likert scale and were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) 26.0. The findings indicate that the respondents' perception of the practice and form of digital alternative assessment in Islamic studies is at a high level. All learning and assessments carried out by the lecturers were conducted online, and the effectiveness of the assessment was also perceived to be at a high level. The finding indicates that the assessment enabled the students to synthesize information and harnessed their skills through the process of self-reflection on learning. Through the assessment, they managed to synthesize information and hone their skills through the process of self-reflection on their learning. This means that the practice of digital alternative assessment in Islamic studies is assessed as authentic because it allows students to apply high-level skills and knowledge as well as provides a real-world learning experience. Nevertheless, the digital aspect necessitates further improvement to provide a meaningful learning experience. This study suggests that the practice of digital alternative assessment in Islamic studies considers the challenges faced by students and their views towards developing a more sustainable guideline for implementing the online alternative assessment.

Thus, when interacting with texts of Arabic language including verses of al-Quran, its author certainly does translation. Therefore, this article tries to identify the method which applied by the author of Tafsir Nur al-Ihsan in translating verses of al-Quran. This study uses the designs of content and descriptive analysis. The finding shows that the author applies six methods of translation namely interlingual translation, bound or katawi translation, full translation, partial translation, communicative translation, and direct translation. Quranic memorization course offering for vision impairment person in Darul Quran give opportunity... more Quranic memorization course offering for vision impairment person in Darul Quran give opportunity to this group to memorize the Quran in formal way. The study was conducted to identify Quranic memorization learning practice by the vision impairment person and to analyze the differences in the methods practiced versus the typical group. The study involved eight visually impaired Tahfiz students in Darul Quran. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, researchers use a qualitative approach, namely document analysis, interviews and observation. The results of the study found that there are five Quranic memorization learning method used which are talaqqi method, understanding the meaning of verse, listening, tasmi' and kitabah. The methods used have managed to improve their memorization achievement and maintain the consistent memorization performance in each semester.
Manhaj al-harakī or dynamic methodology is one of modern methods or approaches in Qur’ānic exeges... more Manhaj al-harakī or dynamic methodology is one of modern methods or approaches in Qur’ānic exegesis which has been introduced in the early decades of the twentieth century. The development of this method has been established by Islamic movements especially Muslim Brotherhood (al-Ikhwān al- Muslimīn). However, this method has not been widely known, in fact, a few scholars of the Qur’ānic studies discussed it. This study, therefore, attempts to introduce the concept of Manhaj alharakī and its origin, as well as the dimension of renewal (tajdīd) in interpretation of the Qur’ān. By applying qualitative method and descriptive analysis, this study concludes that the Manhaj al-harakī is not completely a new method in the Qur’ānic exegesis, but it is a rebranding to the method which had been used by the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), his companions and generation of Salaf in dealing with the Qur’ān. The application of Manhaj al-harakī in interpretation of the Qur’ān aims to bring modern Muslims closer to the Qur’ān and to understand the objective of its revelation as a practical and realistic book which deals with every aspect of human life.

The study analyses the educational issues and challenges of Pondok Bantan as an Islamic instituti... more The study analyses the educational issues and challenges of Pondok Bantan as an Islamic institution in Thailand. Fieldwork research has been carried out in 2018 and 2019. Data is collected using observation instruments and semi-structured interviews. Then it was analyzed descriptively. The study finds that Pondok Bantan needs to overcome several cultural and organizational issues and challenges to achieve its goal as a model of Islamic education institutions in Thailand. The study makes several recommendations such as modification of Islamic studies curriculum and initiation of a comprehensive training program as the way forward for Pondok Bantan to become a respected Islamic institution in future.

This narration could divert the reader’s focus from the teaching contained in the qaṣaṣ al-Qur’ān to a worthless debate. Therefore, this research analyses Abdul Hadi Awang’s interpretation method in interacting with Isrā’īliyyāt’s narration. This research uses a qualitative design by content analysis. The collection of the research’s data was through document analysis on an audio recording of a few quranic chapters interpreted by Abdul Hadi. Document analysis, interview transcription and observation fieldnotes are the most popular and ra... more Document analysis, interview transcription and observation fieldnotes are the most popular and rapidly expanding techniques for collecting data in a qualitative research, especially in Qur’anic studies. These techniques have been applied to many areas of inquiry and has been used to study the methodology of Qur’anic exegesis, the exegetes’ thought and the thematic interpretation of the Qur’an. However, occasionally the process of collecting and analysing data is not properly done, and this could affect credibility and accuracy of a description, explanation or finding of a research. Thus, the Cohen’s Kappa Index is suggested to be applied to provide a scientific, valid and reliable research in the Qur’anic studies. The purpose of this chapter is to highlight a few examples of Qur’anic research that applied the Cohen’s Kappa Index to ascertain the validity and reliability of those qualitative studies. Those examples would provide appropriate guidance in the use of the Index in other areas of qualitative research

Beliau telah menjadikan Qira'at Tafsiriyyah sebagi sumber pentafsiran di dalam Tafsir Nurul Ihsan. Artikel ini membincangkan tafsiran beliau terhadap sebahagian ayat-ayat al-Quran dengan menggunakan sumber Qira'at Tafsiriyyah. Kajian ini menggunakan reka bentuk analisis kandungan terhadap Tafsir Nurul Ihsan. Data dikumpul melalui analisis dokumen dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Berdasarkan penelitian yang dibuat, Muhammad Said merujuk kepada Qira'at Mutawatirah dan Qira'at Mudrajah di dalam Tafsir Nurul Ihsan. Sejajar dengan itu, pengaplikasian Qira'at dalam tafsir, kajian ini meletakkan Muhammad Said sebagai pelopor dalam bidang ini di Malaysia.

Qasas al-Quran merupakan kandungan al-Quran yang berkaitan dengan penceritaan al-Quran tentang ha... more Qasas al-Quran merupakan kandungan al-Quran yang berkaitan dengan penceritaan al-Quran tentang hal ehwal umat terdahulu dan kisah-kisah nabi serta peristiwa yang telah berlaku atau berlaku semasa nuzul al-Quran atau peristiwa yang akan terjadi selepas zaman Nabi SAW. Allah SWT membentangkan qasas al-Qur'an bertujuan untuk mengemukakan pengajaran-pengajaran yang dapat diteladani oleh umat Islam dalam konteks semasa. Kertas kerja ini memberi fokus kepada pemikiran Abdul Hadi Awang terhadap qasas al-Quran sebagai salah satu sumber dakwahnya. Kajian ini menggunakan reka bentuk kualitatif secara analisis kandungan. Data kajian dikumpulkan menerusi analisis dokumen terhadap rakaman-rakaman tafsir dan beberapa buah buku tafsir Abdul Hadi Awang yang telah diterbitkan. Data-data ini kemudiannya dianalisis secara deskriptif. Kajian ini mendapati Abdul Hadi Awang menjadikan qasas al-Quran sebagai sumber pemikiran dakwahnya. Pemikirannya terhadap qasas al-Qur'an dalam dakwah dapat dibahagikan kepada dua iaitu mengeluarkan pengajaran dan menghubungkannya dengan isu semasa. Implikasi kajian ini ialah pemikiran Abdul Hadi Awang terhadap qasas al-Quran memberi impak kepada penyebaran dakwah dalam jalur politik yang diterajuinya.

In fact, this theory of kulliyyāt al-tafsīr can rival the Izutsu’s semantic theory espoused by some contemporary Quranic scholars. Therefore, this article seeks to explain the concept of kulliyyāt al-tafsīr thoroughly and at the same time reveal its significance in the field of Qur’anic exegesis. Through the collection of data related to kulliyyāt al-tafsīr scattered in various books of tafsir and ʿulūm al-Quran, the study can conclude that kulliyyāt al-tafsīr is a general conclusion produced by the exegetes about words and styles contained in the Quran. The significance of this theory can be highlighted through the identification of the role played by kulliyyāt al-tafsīr in the field of exegesis.

The present study focuses on Qira'at Mudrajah (recitations with unacknowledged insertions or ... more The present study focuses on Qira'at Mudrajah (recitations with unacknowledged insertions or additions into the text or the isnad) that falls under the category of Qira'at Shadhdhah (isolated or uncommon recitations). Its contribution to the issuance of Fiqh rulings has become a reference among scholars, namely the jurists. These contributions become more meaningful as the rulings are being applied and practiced by the Muslim community in their daily practices. Thereby, this study can assist the Muslim community in exploring some of the primary sources of arguments and evidences of Fiqh rulings which is Qira'at Mudrajah. The present study also utilizes library research method in analyzing all the data obtained. Results of the study confirm that this form of qira'at has a significant role and contribution in the field of Fiqh.

Justeru artikel ini akan memperkenalkan teknik pencarian hadith yang digunakan di dalam kajian analsis hadith. Tujuh panduan diperkenalkan di dalam artikel ini. Tujuh kaedah tersebut ialah; pertama, mengemukakan matan hadith dari buku-buku motivas1 sama ada dengan lafaz hadith atau makna hadith atau kedua-duanya sekali. Kedua, melakukan takhrij hadith. Ketiga, melakukan analisa terhadap sanad hadith dan mendatangkan Shajarat al-Asanid. Keempat, melakukan analisa pada matan hadith. Kelima, memberikan hukum hadith dan ta'liq (kometar pengkaji). Fieldwork research has been carried out in 2018 and 2019. Data is collected using observation instruments and semi-structured interviews. Then it was analyzed descriptively. The study finds that Pondok Bantan needs to overcome several cultural and organizational issues and challenges to achieve its goal as a model of Islamic education institutions in Thailand. The study makes several recommendations such as modification of Islamic studies curriculum and initiation of a comprehensive training program as the way forward for Pondok Bantan to become a respected Islamic institution in future.

This narration could divert the reader’s focus from the teaching contained in the qaṣaṣ al-Qur’ān to a worthless debate. Therefore, this research analyses Abdul Hadi Awang’s interpretation method in interacting with Isrā’īliyyāt’s narration. This research uses a qualitative design by content analysis. The collection of the research’s data was through document analysis on an audio recording of a few quranic chapters interpreted by Abdul Hadi. These techniques have been applied to many areas of inquiry and has been used to study the methodology of Qur’anic exegesis, the exegetes’ thought and the thematic interpretation of the Qur’an. However, occasionally the process of collecting and analysing data is not properly done, and this could affect credibility and accuracy of a description, explanation or finding of a research. Thus, the Cohen’s Kappa Index is suggested to be applied to provide a scientific, valid and reliable research in the Qur’anic studies. The purpose of this chapter is to highlight a few examples of Qur’anic research that applied the Cohen’s Kappa Index to ascertain the validity and reliability of those qualitative studies. Those examples would provide appropriate guidance in the use of the Index in other areas of qualitative research

Beliau telah menjadikan Qira'at Tafsiriyyah sebagi sumber pentafsiran di dalam Tafsir Nurul Ihsan. Artikel ini membincangkan tafsiran beliau terhadap sebahagian ayat-ayat al-Quran dengan menggunakan sumber Qira'at Tafsiriyyah. Kajian ini menggunakan reka bentuk analisis kandungan terhadap Tafsir Nurul Ihsan. Data dikumpul melalui analisis dokumen dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Berdasarkan penelitian yang dibuat, Muhammad Said merujuk kepada Qira'at Mutawatirah dan Qira'at Mudrajah di dalam Tafsir Nurul Ihsan. Sejajar dengan itu, pengaplikasian Qira'at dalam tafsir, kajian ini meletakkan Muhammad Said sebagai pelopor dalam bidang ini di Malaysia.

Allah SWT membentangkan qasas al-Qur'an bertujuan untuk mengemukakan pengajaran-pengajaran yang dapat diteladani oleh umat Islam dalam konteks semasa. Kertas kerja ini memberi fokus kepada pemikiran Abdul Hadi Awang terhadap qasas al-Quran sebagai salah satu sumber dakwahnya. Kajian ini menggunakan reka bentuk kualitatif secara analisis kandungan. Data kajian dikumpulkan menerusi analisis dokumen terhadap rakaman-rakaman tafsir dan beberapa buah buku tafsir Abdul Hadi Awang yang telah diterbitkan. Data-data ini kemudiannya dianalisis secara deskriptif. Kajian ini mendapati Abdul Hadi Awang menjadikan qasas al-Quran sebagai sumber pemikiran dakwahnya. Pemikirannya terhadap qasas al-Qur'an dalam dakwah dapat dibahagikan kepada dua iaitu mengeluarkan pengajaran dan menghubungkannya dengan isu semasa. Implikasi kajian ini ialah pemikiran Abdul Hadi Awang terhadap qasas al-Quran memberi impak kepada penyebaran dakwah dalam jalur politik yang diterajuinya.

In fact, this theory of kulliyyāt al-tafsīr can rival the Izutsu’s semantic theory espoused by some contemporary Quranic scholars. Therefore, this article seeks to explain the concept of kulliyyāt al-tafsīr thoroughly and at the same time reveal its significance in the field of Qur’anic exegesis. Through the collection of data related to kulliyyāt al-tafsīr scattered in various books of tafsir and ʿulūm al-Quran, the study can conclude that kulliyyāt al-tafsīr is a general conclusion produced by the exegetes about words and styles contained in the Quran. The significance of this theory can be highlighted through the identification of the role played by kulliyyāt al-tafsīr in the field of exegesis.

There are seven famous opinions in `adad, namely; Madani Awwal, Madani Akhir, Makki, Kufi, Basri, Shami and Himshi. The difference of opinions in the determination of Quranic verses does not only affect the calculation of the total number of verses in the Qur'an, but also contribute to the differences in the nature of mushaf (printed Quran). Its contribution to the issuance of Fiqh rulings has become a reference among scholars, namely the jurists. These contributions become more meaningful as the rulings are being applied and practiced by the Muslim community in their daily practices. Thereby, this study can assist the Muslim community in exploring some of the primary sources of arguments and evidences of Fiqh rulings which is Qira'at Mudrajah. The present study also utilizes library research method in analyzing all the data obtained. Results of the study confirm that this form of qira'at has a significant role and contribution in the field of Fiqh.
