Computerized cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is invented to address this problem and is proven efficient to treat depression in adults. However, its effectiveness to treat adolescents still remains a question. Current literature suggests that engagement when using computerized CBT is an issue. The objective of this study is to analyze existing computerized CBT programs to address the engagement issue. Interviews with professionals also have been conducted to get some verifications and views on engagement in computerized CBT with adolescents. From the study, we can conclude that further research needs to be conducted especially on how to engage adolescents better.

Multi-informant assessment has been implicated to facilitate the diagnostic process. However, disagreement between different informants is common, creating problems in clinical practice. Parents, adolescents and teachers report ADHD symptoms from their own perspectives and biases. Several other factors such as nature of the symptoms, different settings where behavior is observed, cultural values, parental education and stress, contribute to influence agreement between informants. It is important for clinicians to understand why disagreement occurs rather than disregard the information as less significant. Each informant provides unique information and contributes significantly to a comprehensive overview of the clinical features. This paper reviews agreement between informants in reporting ADHD symptoms among adolescents, explores factors contributing to disagreement, and discusses strategies to ha...

This review provides updates based on the recent literature focusing on the EIU in young women to describe its implications including what it constitutes of, its correlates, sequelae and preventive and/or treatment strategies. Recent findings Definition of EIU and its conceptualization still requires refinement. Recent studies indicate a changing trend towards female predominance of EIU. Women also differ in their internet use compared with men regarding their preference in the internet content and online activities, motives of use and factors related to access to the internet, including the device, sociocultural restrictions, etc. The correlates and sequelae of EIU encompass psychological, physical, biological, family and social domains that could form the basis of identifying individuals at risk and strategizing treatment. Summary The findings indicate the need for standardization in definition and measures of EIU for better recognition of EIU and identification of its at-higher-risk females. Effective preventive and treatment measures are still limited by various methodology flaws outlined here.

We examined the association between psychiatric disorders and family environmental factors among female juvenile detainees. A hundred female juvenile detainees in a Malaysian rehabilitation center (12–17 years-old) were assessed using the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview for Child and Adolescent and the Family Environment Scale. Majority of participants (56 %) had a psychiatric disorder, the commonest being Disruptive Behavior Disorders (40 %) and Depressive Disorders (30 %). Multivariate analysis found younger age (OR 0.52; 95 % CI 0.29, 0.94), older maternal age (OR 1.15; 95 % CI 1.03, 1.28), family history of crime (OR 7.19; 95 % CI 1.05, 49.43), family environment i.e. achievement orientation (OR 1.11; 95 % CI 1.02, 1.20) and control (OR 1.12; 95 % CI 1.03, 1.22) as significant factors for psychiatric disorder. This study demonstrated the role of age (younger adolescent and older mother), family history of crime and family environment beyond socio-economic status in psychiatric morbidity among female juvenile detainees. Future larger studies are needed to clarify familial-genetic factors that may impact strategies for family-centric mental health interventions.

Methods: We report a case of a 9-year old boy who presented with school refusal behaviour. Results: There was no psychiatry diagnosis made in this patient. Parental issues such as ineffective and inconsistent parenting, and parental marital disharmony contribute significantly to the school refusal behaviour. Conclusion: Parents in particular are important team players in the management of school refusal. Parental issues need to be explored and managed accordingly to ensure good outcome. Journal of Child and Family Studies, 2016

Family environmental factors have been implicated in the development of delinquency and adolescen... more Family environmental factors have been implicated in the development of delinquency and adolescent psychiatric disorders.
