Chiara Pussetti | University of Lisbon (original) (raw)

I completed my PhD in 2003. Over the last 16 years, I have researched, published and taught extensively on the subjects of migration, public health, gender, body and emotions, social inequality, suffering and well-being. I have been equally committed to science communication and public engagement activities, collaborating with medical practitioners, cultural institutions, NGOs, policy-makers and media outlets in Europe, Africa and Latin America.

After being awarded two FCT postdoc grants (2003–2008), I became a Senior Research Associate (2008–2013) at the Centre for Research in Anthropology (ISCTE-IUL), contracted under the ‘Commitment to Science 2007’ program. Since then, I have established myself as a leading researcher in the fields of medical anthropology, urban anthropology and ethnography-based art. I have sought to develop international networks and partnerships, coordinating 2 international projects (Leonardo da Vinci LLP; FCT-CAPES) and 3 national projects [FCT (2); High Commissioner for Immigration].

I am currently post-doc researcher at ICS (2013-2019) and in the last 5 years, I have coordinated as PI 4 ethnography-based art projects, funded by local governments and private foundations; the €10M Horizon 2020 project ROCK www.rockproject.eu; the FCT Project EXCEL www.excelproject.eu (starting in October 2018). Overall, in the last 10 years I have directly managed over 1.000.000€ of research funds.

I have been strongly committed to teaching since the beginning of my postdoctoral career. In 2001 I was granted “Cultore della materia ” in Social and Cultural Anthropology and from there I have chaired 2 PostGraduate Diplomas, 1 Vocational Training Diploma and served as full-time lecturer in 18 semester-long courses at leading universities in Italy, Portugal and Brazil. In 2013 I was granted the Italian National Scientific Habilitation for Associate Professor in Anthropology and, in 2014, I spent one year as Visiting Associate Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. I have supervised 3 postdoctoral fellows, 14 PhD and 5 MA dissertations and the activities of 16 visiting students (CAPES; Leonardo da Vinci). I have also served as external examiner for 5 MA and 4 PhD dissertations in Portugal and Brazil.

I have organized several international conferences, convened panels at the major anthropological meetings, and I have been invited to speak as a keynote speaker and guest lecturer on 20 different occasions. I have written 2 books, 21 book chapters and 25 articles in peer-reviewed journals, scoring – in the last 5 years – an h-index of 9. I have also edited 5 books 1 is forthcoming), 7 special issues and 1 exhibition catalogue.
