In what concerns to children audiences, the focus has been on safety and security of children and the correspondent online data protection. Questions of the impact of subliminal forms of marketing communication target to children start to emerge in a world where marketing strategies and entertainment are more and more connected. Our general argument draws on the empirical findings of original research on the molding of this specific televisual genre and format called "telenovela", and the specific production mode associated with it, and reflects on its historical emergence and the contingencies of such a process. Our goal is to identify the variables that allowed this genre to gain local dominance and later achieve international circulation. Following the results of quantitative and qualitative research, we argue that the structure of the local production and distribution settings and the dominant ideology of the associated production culture promoted the emergence of an original local production culture and sustains it until today.

Those activities compete one amongst the other and with other media, like television, for the user interest. The way these activities compete amongst themselves and with other media, is an important subject to be studied in the field of media studies, but also a relevant object when we discuss the ways technologies are diffused and adopted in our societies. This paper presents the results of an exploratory research targeted at typifying the activities users are pursuing on-line and the ways these activities relate to other processes of media consumption. A multidimensional scaling technique was used to produce a spatial map that identifies in a common bi-dimensional space several activities users usually conduct on-line and relates those with other forms of media use. The results show a clear distinction between two large clusters of activities that we then associate to two categories that can help us in the future in bette...

The contemporary audience that connects to the world and others via the web is difficult to understand using traditional approaches. The status of the World Wide Web nowadays, forces us to think both the user and the medium. User’s activities are apparently a fertile ground to build a more comprehensive account of audiences today focusing on what the “audience does”. Using Multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis techniques a study was conducted with the purpose of building a spatial map able to represent an important set of internet activities, group them into different clusters and identify different dimensions that can helps in understanding users attitude towards the medium and the type of media culture it frames.
