The extension of the optimization task formulation to include renewable sources is also provided. It is shown in the results that using the deployed optimization technique, a significant reduction in the energy usage cost and the waiting time of the appliances (delay) for residential consumers can be achieved. This work can be used in smart home and smart cities applications.

In this kind of city houses are equipped with smart meters that can record electric energy as well as transmit and accept data regarding energy utilization and prices to consumers. Additionally, new methods, known as real-time pricing of electricity, have been introduced in which energy prices change based on an hourly timeline and depend on consumers’ energy requests. Due to the production of electricity by PV panels, a smart grid will share the surplus of the energy provided by the panels to the grid. These pricing policies will force and encourage consumers to track their power consumption and use renewable energies. In this paper, the impacts of pricing policy on the reduction in consumers’ power consumption are investigated. A small-scale smart city is presented and a policy is applied to it. Additionally, an implementation through a simulation of some houses equipped with renewable energy sources is done to st...

The analysis concern different design structures and it is carried out using the advanced design simulator (ADS) software of Agilent Technologies Inc. In the first part, two design methods of 2 GHz LNA based on lumped and distributed elements have been compared. The best performance is obtained with lumped elements; the designed amplifier provides a noise figure of 0.35 dB and a gain of 16.77 dB. In the second part, a 10 GHz LNA has been designed based on microstrip matching network. It has been observed that the simulation results match with the desired requirements which demonstrate the robustness of the design procedure.

The objective is to minimize the Sidelobe level and improve the directivity. GWO is a nature-inspired meta-heuristic algorithm inspired by the social hierarchy and hunting behavior of grey wolves. The obtained optimal values result in a good reduction of the sidelobe level for the elliptical and concentric elliptical antenna arrays with an enhancement in the directivity. This makes the designed arrays of practical use in the communication systems.

This field has attracted the attention of many Algerian researchers due to its important solar potential specially in the southern desert areas. In a comprehensive review of the works in this domain, we propose a comprehensive review of the different models and studies for predicting solar radiation in Algeria. Various techniques have been proposed including artificial stochastic models and intelligence.

The comprehensive learning differential search algorithm is used for synthesizing a one-and a three-ring circular and concentric circular antenna array with thirty elements. This synthesis is done by finding the optimum inter-element spacing of rings, phases and /or positions that give optimum side lobe level. The computational results show that side lobe level is reduced significantly in non-uniform case for concentric in comparison with a single ring.

The aim is to devise antenna geometrical parameters that allow the antenna to simultaneously improve multiple performances such as gain, sidelobe level, and input impedance. Thus, not only will a new antenna configuration be explored, but the application of the GA to designs with more than one goal will be investigated as well.

The obtained tool is then applied to find the potential profile within a MOS capacitor in deep depletion mode.

As a practical part, an array of parallel dipoles is designed to account for the mutual coupling effects on the performance of the array in terms of directivity, sidelobe level and null placement. Illustrative examples are considered to impose single or multiple nulls in the antenna pattern at specific interference directions with the maximum side lobe level reduction of array antenna design.

The phasor measurement units are the most advanced devices to achieve that. The objective of this work is first, to find the optimal placement of a minimum number of PMUs in some standardized IEEE systems. Next, the same method was applied to the Algerian 63 bus system. Two cases are taken into consideration: the minimum number of PMUs without considering the ZIB, then, considering the ZIB. The simulations are carried out using MATLAB/SIMULINK.

This paper aims at designing a real time communication between two computers for interchanging the state of a three phase circuit to emulate a transmission line protection system in power substation. The circuit designed in Proteus ISIS is based on "symmetrical component theory" and the algorithm for exchanging data between two computers is built using TCP/IP protocol in LABVIEW environment. The application consists of monitoring and controlling three phase lines by sending the data collected to one of the computers and sending the commands back to trip relays if any fault is detected. The purpose is to prevent the propagation of this fault and to connect other sources to maintain the flow of power to the load.

The purpose of the optimization task is to enhance the ratio directivity/sidelobe level which turns out to be having two conflicting parameters. The binary variant of the teaching learning optimization technique searches the way of exciting some selected elements. The array thinning problem requires some elements to be excited with the others having no current in them. This is a binary (ON-OFF) problem that requires an optimization technique that can handle the binary variables. The teaching learning optimization has been proposed initially to handle real valued variables. The results show good agreement between the desired and calculated radiation patterns with reduction in resource usage in terms of power consumption.

The purpose is to find the different excitation amplitudes and phases to achieve good matching between the desired and calculated radiation patterns. Examples which demonstrate the versatility of the approach presented in this article are considered for various patterns including the steered pattern case.
