Worldwide it constitutes the second leading cause of cancer related death in both the sexes. There is a wide demographic variation seen with GC, with Asian countries like China alone representing almost 42% of the world’s GC burden. Over the years the western nations have reported a decrease in the incidence of GC but with an increasing incidence of proximally located GCs, whereas most of Asian countries have distally located cancers. AIMS & OBJECTIVES: To Analyze the ‘Clinic-Demographic’ profile of gastric cancer in Kashmir valley MATERIALS & METHOD: We conducted an analytical, non-randomized, cross-sectional study on the Clinico-Demographic profile of 330 patients with primary GC who reported to our OPD between July2011 to July 2015. RESULTS: Over a period of four years 330 patients of primary GC were analyzed. Majority were males. Mean age of the patients was 62 years. Majority were smokers & non-veget...

Palliative radiotherapy (PRT) is an indispensable modality for control of cancer symptoms in advanced stages and approximately one-half of prescribed radiotherapy is given for palliation of symptoms. Materials and Methods: Scenario of PRT was analyzed in 125 patients with various malignancies, who either needed radiotherapy at presentation or later sometime after disease progression. We analyzed the data with respect to (i) sociodemographic status, (ii) site or indication of palliation, (iii) dose prescribed, and (iv) response rate. Descriptive statistics were evaluated in terms of frequencies and percentage to allow comparisons. Results: About 70% (n = 87) of the patients were males; median age of the patients receiving PRT was 55 years (range: 18-70); 28% (n = 37) patients received PRT at the primary site, whereas the rest (72%) received...

Case 1 Pleomorphic sarcoma on right chest wall extending to right supraclavicular fossa

We studied the role of local radiotherapy in controlling bleeding at our center. We reviewed 25 treated cases (cancer urinary bladder: 12, lung cancer: 5, cervical cancer: 4, uterine cancer: 1, rectal cancer: 2, schwanoma: 1) at our center from March 2008 to December 2010. All patients had either an advanced or recurrent disease. Radiotherapy schedule was either 20 Gray in 5 fractions or 15 Gray in 5 fractions and was delivered with Cobalt 60. Of 25 patients, 22 (88%) responded, and there was complete cessation of bleeding. Both 15 Gray and 20 Gray dose schedule had equal efficacy. Treatment was well tolerated without any intermission. Radiotherapy is a safe and effective option in controlling tumor bleeding.

The Guidance requires student data collection using a two-question format. The Guidance will require that educational institutions raise an initial question about the individuals' ethnicity that requires them to respond to whether they are Hispanic/ Latino. 2 11 Then educational institutions are required to allow students to "mark one or more" categories of the following racial groups that applies to them: 1) American Indian or Alaska Native, 2) Asian, 3) Black or African American, 4) Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, and 5) White. 2 56 The Guidance makes the Hispanic/Latino 249. The clinical course of patients treated with surgery alone has been characterized by a high death rate and also by the pain and disability associated with pelvic recurrence of the tumor. Adjuvant radiation combined with chemotherapy has been studied for prevention of such recurrences. We treat more than 200 rectal cancer patients annually at our center. Most of the patients registered at our center are those who have been already subjected to surgery at the peripheral hospitals. We studied role of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and calcium leucovorin concurrently with radiotherapy in Dukes' stage B2 and C and toxicities thereof in the adjuvant setting. Objective: To assess the outcome of concurrent chemoradiation in operated locally advanced treated cancer patients. Materials and Methods: In operated Dukes' B2 and C rectal cancer patients, we conducted a prospective non-randomized study comprising of 40 patients between 2012 and 2014. Patients were treated with two hours protracted infusion of calcium leucovorin 500 mg/m 2 on day 1 followed by 5-fluorouracil 500 mg/m 2 on days 1 to 5 and repeated four weekly for total of six cycles. Radiotherapy of 45 Gray in 20 fractions was delivered concurrently with chemotherapy for first two cycles. Results: Combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in a concurrent setting appears to be more efficient in reducing local recurrence rates and improving survival than either modality alone. Toxicities with this schedule were mostly gastrointestinal mucositis, but no treatment interruption was needed. Conclusion: A combination of 5-fluorouracil and radiotherapy can be administered in operated locally advanced rectal cancer patients.

It is characterised by a disturbance in bone modelling and remodelling because of increased osteoclastic activity followed by improper osteoblastic repair. Although PD of bone is an uncommon entity, axial skeleton involving pelvic bones, spine and skull are the commonest sites. Here we report a case of 65-yearold postmenopausal female who presented with generalised bone pain and subsequently was diagnosed as a case of Paget's disease and managed accordingly.

Breast cancer ranks as the fifth cause of death from cancer overall (522,000 deaths) and while it is the most frequent cause of cancer death in women in less developed regions (324,000 deaths), it is now the second cause of cancer death in more developed regions after lung cancer. AIM To assess the awareness and knowledge about various risk factors, symptoms and screening methods of breast cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 80 adult females. Data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire, which included questions on socio-demographic data, knowledge of various risk factors, symptoms and screening of breast cancer. RESULTS The mean age of participants was 39.25 years with 42.5% aged 31 to 40 years. Majority 60% participants had a poor knowledge about various risk factors of breast cancer. No participant could correctly identify all the seven symptoms mentioned in the questionnaire. Maximum of five symptoms of breast cancer were identified by only 17.5%. Majority 60% participants had not heard about Breast Self-Examination (BSE), only 5% participants had heard about BSE and were regular performers. None of the participants had clinical breast examination in the past year and only 7.5% participants had heard of mammography. CONCLUSION The present study points to the insufficient knowledge of female participants about various risk factors and symptoms of breast cancer. Knowledge about Breast Self-Examination, clinical breast examination and mammography was also not satisfactory.
