The apoptotic process was slower in infected animals than in healthy ones and mean percentages of the apoptotic cells were ...

The pathological processes underlying this disease are regulated by many various factors, including microRNAs (miRNAs). miRNAs constitute a pool of small, non-coding RNAs with a gene expression modulatory function. In the presented study, differentially expressed miRNAs were identified in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from 18 patients with LEAD compared to 10 healthy volunteers using OpenArray RT-qPCR. Sixteen miRNAs were significantly differentially expressed in the LEAD group. Four out of them, hsa-miR-138-5p, -34a-3p, -34a-5p, and -766-3p, were consistent with a previous next-generation sequencing study. The in silico analysis performed for these four miRNAs showed associations with vascular smooth muscle cells differentiation, inflammation, and apoptosis, potentially resulting from modulation of genes involved in cell cycle, cellular adhesion, and Notch signaling. The presented study expands our knowledge on the role of miRNA in the pathology of LEAD, providing potential candidates for biomarkers of this disease.

Phytogenically synthesised nanoparticle (NP)-based drug delivery systems have promising potential... more Phytogenically synthesised nanoparticle (NP)-based drug delivery systems have promising potential in the field of biopharmaceuticals. From the point of view of biomedical applications, such systems offer the small size, high surface area, and possible synergistic effects of NPs with embedded biomolecules. This article describes the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) using extracts from the flowers and leaves of tansy (Tanacetum vulgare L.), which is known as a remedy for many health problems, including cancer. The reducing power of the extracts was confirmed by total phenolic and flavonoid content and antioxidant tests. The Ag-NPs were characterised by various analytical techniques including UV–vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and a dynamic light scattering (DLS) system. The obtained Ag-NPs showed higher cytotoxic activity than the initial extracts against both human c...

This enables the application of these systems in two-dimensional separations because of the different selectivity and application to the separation of closely related compounds of similar physicochemical properties and retention behaviour. Similarly, multiphase plates, connected with C18 strips and silica layers, are used with aqueous and nonaqueous eluents. Such layers were applied for the separation of selected coumarins. Thus, differences in separation selectivity are applied for the separation of coumarin fractions from plant extracts of the Apiaceae family by two-dimensional thin-layer chromatography.
