"Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel."I distributed ashes at the 10:00am Mass this morning. It's the first time I've done that at St. Johns. It was nice. The 10:00am wasn't nearly as crowded as the 12:15, which is the Mass I ususally go to on Ash Wednesday. We're in the discipline of Lent. It is a time of preparation, a time of reflection, a time of fasting and prayer. It snuck up on me again this year and I feel unprepared to enter into the season in the way that I should. I have a book from RCIA that's basically a six-minute reflection for each day and I will be carrying that around with me until Easter. Every year there's a big "what are you giving up" frenzy (insert the ever hilarious "this year I'm giving up Catholicism" joke here) and we've talked about giving up drinking this year for Lent. But I'm not 100% sure that's what I'll wind up doing. After being particularly grouchy this morning when Drew woke us up at almost 5 (ie, ungodly early) I thought that maybe I'd give up being an ass. I want more patience. And I want it now.At Mass today we were supposed to sing one of my all-time favorites, Hosea, but the other song that was sung first took care of it. So I dug out this version of it for you. This is my Dad, me on guitar and background vocals, and Greg Hiebert on backing vocals in Most Holy Trinity chapel in 1992. It was recorded to tape with us standing around one microphone, so there really isn't that much I could do with the sound quality. But I still think it's nice. Do a little "right click--save as" up there. It's quiet, too, so turn it up.May your Lenten sacrifice bear the fruits of the Spirit, and bring you closer to Him who sacrificed all out of love for you.

I'm not sure if anyone reads this community anymore or not...It's looking like I'm going to be participating in the retreat in February. I'll be bringing along my guitar and bag-o-music and helping out in any way that I can. It'll be my 8th time going on the retreat. It would have been the 9th time, but I missed last year's retreat because Drew was just a tiny baby. So I'll see you (if you're still around and going on the retreat) in February!

If ya'll could please pray for1. My daddy, he's been having Vertigo (dizzy, room spins, knocks you out) for a couple years now, and he really didn't have episodes all that often, but it's happened 5 times in the last 2 weeks. He has been tested for a bunch of different things but nothing's come up yet, so if you could pray that he gets better soon, I'd really appreciate it!2. My cousin Stephen. The doctor found that he had a heart murmur during a physical. He's only in 8th grade, and pretty bummed he can't play football at school this year. Please pray that the other tests they ran come out ok, and that the problem isn't that serious. 3. Father Chris, the priest at my home parish of St. Ann's. He was diagnosed with Shingles this past week (like chicken pox, in adults, but worse). He should be better by next Sunday, butif you could pray for his fast recovery, I'd appreciate it! Things are Craaazy without him! :)See you guys soon!Shoes, Jess

Dear CCM friends...We have really discovered a rare treasure in our ministry. The Bereit family.(Remember them? Margaret and David gave a Supper Seminar talk earlier this semester, using the tower of wine glasses as a model for life in Christ.)Well, a few CCMers and I have paid a couple visits to their house for dinner, and it is just amazing!! They have offered that we come over to their house "whenever," just to get away from campus and spend time with a faithful family. (Plus, they have AWESOME food!)Since my days as a leader at the CCM are coming to a close, I'd like to pass on the Bereits' information, so you all can form contacts with them and let them be a part of our community.(This is a private journal, so I think it's OK to post phone numbers and whatnot.)(540) 785-3771bereitfamily@adelphia.net:)Love,Liz
