The complexity of the terrorist phenomenon poses many difficulties that make it impossible to acc... more The complexity of the terrorist phenomenon poses many difficulties that make it impossible to accurately anticipate its evolution. Assuming this fact, the paper addresses those conditions that will foreseeably be present in the future, actively or passively, influencing the evolution of the phenomenon. Finally, some keys will be offered that must be taken into consideration to be effective in the response.

During the past few decades, organised crime has grown considerably as a consequence of political... more During the past few decades, organised crime has grown considerably as a consequence of political transformations and global economics. The countries of the European Union are very much aware of this situation, and are taking steps to coordinate strategies and boost cooperation in the fight against the problem. This article attempts, firstly, to explain the phenomenon in its present dimensions and in those facets that most affect the EU Member States. The author then goes on to tackle the aspects concerning cooperation, in all its different areas, within the sphere of the EU, before finally carrying out a prospective and proactive examination of the foreseeable evolution of the phenomenon, and the measures necessary to tackle it in all its magnitude.

Over the past decades, police forces have evolved significantly as a result of the structural cha... more Over the past decades, police forces have evolved significantly as a result of the structural changes that have taken place in democratic societies. The growing delegitimization of representative political institutions; the empowerment of citizens; the crisis of the welfare state and the consequences of socioeconomic globalization have shaped a scenario in which a classic institution, such as the police, is struggling to relocate itself in an ambiguous space. This is leading to its overlap with other institutional actors and some glimpse of an identity crisis. The aim of this article is to investigate the challenges that Spanish police forces are facing as political actors, in this context. In this scenario, a complex structure of interactions between the police forces, political-institutional decision-makers and various social actors is built.
