I Can't Be Tamed (original) (raw)

I know I haven't updated in a while, but here's the final verdict: I won't be updating again. I'm done with Livejournal. I'm not angry or rushing into this -- I'm just disgusted. I thought about it and I've decided I don't want to be the person who says "Livejournal is doing a terrible job at everything, and I hate them and don't want to give them money, but inertia and the threat of mild inconvenience chains me to them" and then does nothing. I want to be the person who actually acts on the things they believe in.

Livejournal has not only removed functionality against the loud will of its English-speaking userbase, but they have mocked that userbase, hidden the facts from them, and deceived them. Time and again LJ has done things that have made us all angry. This situation is only going to get worse: they are not done changing things, and they don't care what we want. Let's stop passively accepting that.

I will no longer be renewing my several paid accounts or icon extensions. This account is now just a placeholder for me. In the future I will only be using this journal to comment / post to communities when I feel I have to, or to link to fic I'm posting on DW. I urge everyone who is upset by these changes to reconsider Livejournal -- even if that means losing paid time or losing roleplays.

If you're not upset about what's happened and what's coming down the line -- that's your decision, and that's fine. But if you are, consider showing them that.

I don't want to be part of the reason why people don't feel they can move to another site, because everyone is still on LJ.

Consider Dreamwidth (15 icons free, 100 icons basic paid account; no ads, ever) or Insanejournal (100 icons free, 250 icons basic paid account; less functionality, but cheaper) -- both of which are journal platforms have their flaws, but have reachable support staff that actually cares what you have to say.
