Entendido como el conjunto de saberes que posee el individuo, que no pueden ser definidos, codifi... more Entendido como el conjunto de saberes que posee el individuo, que no pueden ser definidos, codificados, publicados ni completamente expresados y que difieren de una persona a otra, pero que podrían ser compartidos, en un importante grado, por colegas y colaboradores que tienen una experiencia común (Dosi, 1998, citado en Cimoli y Correa, 2003). Thi s article analyses the specialization patterns of export smes in Argentina, Chile and Colombi... more Thi s article analyses the specialization patterns of export smes in Argentina, Chile and Colombia in the 2001-2004 period with a view to identifying the factors that influence the level of success achieved by such companies. To this end, an indicator of export success is applied to the universe of export smes in the three countries and two groups of agents are differentiated: the successful and the unsuccessful. These factors are identified using information from surveys applied to some 300 export smes (both successful and unsuccessful) in the countries studied, covering trade, production, technology and the institutional environment. This study compares the relative situation of these countries and analyses the potential contribution their successful export smes can make to modifying their exportable goods baskets.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to show how science-industry R&D cooperation (SIRC) generate... more Purpose The purpose of this paper is to show how science-industry R&D cooperation (SIRC) generates effects on the strategy developed by firms to appropriate the benefits of innovations. Given the plurality of cooperation patterns between firms and public R&D institutions and the variety of appropriation mechanisms used by firms to protect generated knowledge or to strengthen their market position, this paper investigates to what extent different forms of cooperation are associated with different effects on appropriation strategy. Design/methodology/approach As evidence of this, the authors carry out a multiple case study, covering nine biopharmaceutical Argentine firms whose innovation projects are developed in cooperation with public R&D institutions. Using critical dimensions identified by public-private R&D cooperation literature, the paper analyzes the characteristics of cooperation in the cases studied, looking for different patterns. This paper presents a methodology able to approach the level of development of new economy elemen... more This paper presents a methodology able to approach the level of development of new economy elements in two traditional production networks in Argentine (automotive and steel). This approach identifies the dimensions and key variables in the generation, circulation and appropriation of knowledge between a core firm and its local suppliers Besides, it discuss whether the development of a PNW may or not be upgraded by the adoption of new ICT such as the development of purchases electronic platforms in core firms and inversely whether the differences in the PNW configuration allows for a more or less permeably face the ICT.

El articulo presenta el estudio de caso de Delta Biotech S.A., una pyme argentina perteneciente a... more El articulo presenta el estudio de caso de Delta Biotech S.A., una pyme argentina perteneciente a un sector de alta tecnología como lo es el biofarmacéutico. El análisis apunta a evidenciar cómo la estrategia de apropiación de los resultados de las innovaciones tecnológicas de la firma se basa en la articulación de distintos mecanismos y, al ser la actividad de innovación realizada con el aporte de fuentes externas y públicas de conocimiento, dicha estrategia debe tener en cuenta los riesgos que derivan de este rasgo constitutivo de la innovación. La cooperación público-privada para la innovación genera efectos variados sobre cada uno de los mecanismos de apropiación y, por tanto, las características especificas que asume la misma son relevantes para evaluar cuáles son sus efectos sobre la estrategia de apropiación de la empresa.
