Therefore the interest in 2-D measurement of magnetic properties of magnetic steel sheets in rotational magnetic field increases. The round rotational single sheet tester (RRSST) for circular samples is presented. Special attention is paid to achieve a greater measuring region and the equality of field distribution in the sample for all magnetisation directions. The completely automated measuring set-up allows the measurements in alternating, pure rotational, elliptical and also in distorted rotating magnetic field. The field metric measuring technique was used.

The BLDC operation mode for the motors with different slot and pole number combination and concentrated windings was accounted for in the comparison.Findings – In the BLDC operation mode motor structures with concentrated windings with similar slot and pole numbers exhibit at the same current density similar or even higher torque capability and lower electromagnetic torque ripple in comparison to the motor structure with distributed windings. Motor structures with 9‐slot/8‐pole, 9‐slot/10‐pole, 12‐slot/10‐pole slot and pole number combinations are the most appropriate for the BLDC operation.Originality/value – The paper shows which motor structures...

Research paper thumbnail of Flux-weakening and output power capability estimation of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor in variable speed drive applications

Journal of Technical Physics, 2002

Flux-weakening and output power capability estimation of the four-pole interior permanent magnet ... more Flux-weakening and output power capability estimation of the four-pole interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) determined from the finite element method (FEM) analysis of magnetic conditions is presented. The influence of the iron loss on the output power capability (OPC) and the constant-power speed range (CPSR) of the tested IPMSM is included in the analysis by the posterior iron loss calculation. Results of the calculations are partially verified by the measurements.

Research paper thumbnail of Anisotropic Generalization of Vector Preisach Hysteresis Models for Nonoriented Steels

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2015

A Preisach-type vector hysteresis model is developed to represent anisotropic material characteri... more A Preisach-type vector hysteresis model is developed to represent anisotropic material characteristics under static and dynamic conditions. Bi-and uniaxial anisotropy are incorporated by generalizing the input projection of the vector model. Frequencydependent eddy current and excess effects are considered by an additional field strength component. The model is applied to simulate the magnetic properties of weakly anisotropic nonoriented magnetic steel. The simulation results are successfully validated against measurements under alternating and circular flux carried out on a rotational single-sheet tester.

Research paper thumbnail of Measurement of alternating magnetic properties of grain-oriented materials using a round rotational single sheet tester

The measurement was carried out using a round rotational single sheet tester. The results show a strong asymmetry of alternating power loss and magnetic field strength with respect to the RD. The alternating power loss depends on the side of the band where the specimen was cut off.

The position of a crack can be determined by taking into consideration the change in the magnetic density between the measured points. The depth is determined with the use of FEM model. The calculated test case points to an accurate determination. Streszczenie. Computer Engineering in Applied Electromagnetism, 2005

The aim of the calculation is to find out which of the testers is better for the measurement of magnetic properties of magnetic materials in the rotational magnetic field. The influence of the eddy currents and influence of the magnetic density on the magnetic field homogeneity in the samples of the testers is investigated. On the basis of the calculations and measurements some conclusion can be made. The path of eddy currents is the same for all rotational magnetisation directions for the R.R.S.S.T. and it is different for different magnetization directions for the S.R.S.S.T. The highest magnetic density B is always in the centre of the sample for the R.R.S.S.T. and the highest magnetic density for some magnetisation directions and higher amplitudes of B is at the corners of the sample for the S.R.S.S.T.

Finite element analysis is employed to determine the performance of each motor in BLDC and BLAC operation mode. It is shown that the torque capability and flux-weakening performance of surface or inset permanent magnet configuration is strongly dependent on the stator teeth number/rotor pole number combination.

It is shown that the flux-weakened permanent magnet synchronous motor with the third harmonic current injection is capable of producing more output torque per RMS current flowing through the windings than the same motor supplied with sinusoidal currents. The results of the analysis are partially verified with measurements.
