The retrospective processing of information and fragmented data from text publications to maintain these databases is a cumbersome process. Ontologies are a holistic approach to semantically describe data, information and knowledge of a domain. They provide terms, relations and logic to semantically annotate and link data building knowledge graphs. The application of standard taxonomies and vocabularies from the very beginning of data generation and along research workflows in electronic lab notebooks (ELNs), software tools, and their final publication in data repositories create FAIR data straightforwardly. Thus a proper semantic description of an investigation and the why, how, where, when, and by whom data was produced in conjunction with the description and ...

Geospatial information (GI) is therefore an essential component of research information, for example in the form of the address of a university, a conference venue, the coordinates of an excavation site or a measuring station, or the area of a forest observed via satellite. To make research information useful, it must be interoperable. Therefore, it makes sense to work with standardised data sets of GI. <br> In this presentation we outline some known use cases of GI in VIVO. Then we will highlight some critical questions that need to be answered before a widely-used GI dataset can even be created. This includes the challenge of finding a supranational response to the classification of disputed areas, but also issues of openness (licensing), data quality and timelines, and usability of a data collection. The presented thoughts will show the path to the c...

I argue that the movement should be perceived as a representation of the multitude, because of the ways in which it organizes, represents and deploys itself. Since the concept of the multitude as theorized by Hardt and Negri remains quite abstract, the present study also uses the notion of the Digital Native to grasp this concept. By arguing that the use of modern forms of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have played an important role in the cultural impact of the Occupy Movement, the study hypothesizes that the practices of Digital Natives within this movement have made visible the struggle of the multitude in the United States and have helped, therefore, to expose and oppose to a certain extent the biopower deployed by the capitalist society of control that Hardt and Negri's Empire represents.
